Topic: Issue with layers shifting mid-print

Hello, I'm having a strange issue with my printer. Sometimes while printing, a layer of the model will shift towards the back of the printer, and always toward the back of the printer. It will then keep printing on top of the shifted layer. Sometimes it will even shift multiple times during a print, resulting in something that looks like the attached image.

I'm using repetier firmware along with octoprint and slic3r.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this?

No image, but how much of a shift are we taking about? Less than a mm then your glass is loose and shifting during prints. Stick something between the glass and frame like sandpaper or other to keep it from moving. Also check to see if your bed has any wobble back and fourth. Your brass sleeves on the left could be loose and may need to be glued in.

The shifts are typically about 1 cm. Here is a link to the picture: imgur.com/XytFS4E

That looks like your head is getting caught on one of your axises is binding. Did you remove the rubber shipping plug from your filament cartridge before you loaded it?

I have indeed removed the rubber plug. What do you mean by getting caught on one of the axes?

Re: Issue with layers shifting mid-print

Have you found out what is causing the shifting? I had this happen last night. It shifted about 2 hours into the print and then everything was a mess this morning. Not sure what caused the shift all of a sudden.

I've had this happen on my SD4 a couple times. My enclosure was getting hot. I moved the control board outside the box and it hasn't happened again

I think I got it fixed. The bed was slightly loose causing it to wobble during the print. I found a good Youtube video about a fix for the problem. He used an exacto knife blade to fix it, but I found it was actually too small for mine and found some other pieces of metal to put in there to make it tighter between the bearing and the rod. I did a print yesterday and didn't have any shifting problems.
