Topic: How do you print two colours using duo?

Hi, First apologies if posted in wrong area. I recently purchased Da Vinci Duo and have been unable to use two colours. I am trying to print the rose from XYZ forum.  Extruder 2 =red  extruder 2 = white.

Being absolute beginner I am pulling my hair out [not much left to lose]

I thought putting the base [white] and flower ]red] together in the xyz software, it would automatically sort out the printing. Nope
I tried just the rose part but no - went to white sad

I looked through menu system couldn't see anything, then manual and finally XYZ site.  Obviously I am missing something including my sanity. Would appreciate some assistance - Thanks

Re: How do you print two colours using duo?

This is my first post on this forum but have been lurking and learning from the many experiences of others every since I got the printer.
I have had the Duo for over 3 months now and love it. I have printed several two color objects including the rose from XYZprinting using Red and Natural for the base. I also printed the two color "Bottle" using White and Blue. I am using Simplify3D at "Medium" quality with .2 mm layer height. I think you meant one of the colors to be on extruder 1 instead of both on 2.
I printed the rose at normal size and then again at 1.5 x size. Took 2 hours for the normal size and 4.5 hours for the larger one.
I have added an image of the two roses but not sure if I am allowed yet to add images.

Re: How do you print two colours using duo?

XYZPrinting do have a video on their site showing the procedure. You can see it at work in the first two videos on this page on their site: http://bit.ly/1E9WFTO

You will need two STL files, one for each color. Once you import them, you need to assign a head to print each. Then you will need to align the two items into proper position if you want them to print pre-assembled, or you can print them a separate objects and join them manually after printing with glue or some other manual method.

Re: How do you print two colours using duo?

Thanks for that info.  I had set extruders but when I did I selected 'Tomato' as I didn't see 'Red' as an option. That could be the problem, I am about to try. Other than that, I can not find something I have not done. I just spent a lot of hours tightening belt as their video does not look like a Duo machine. BTW, did either of you actually get a software disk? All I got was a blank.

I also received a blank disc but rather than complain to Amazon.com or XYZPrinting I just downloaded their latest software from the XYXPrinting.com site.  The XYZWare version was 1.1.32.12 and then later I updated to 11.34.7 which added some functions but now I am using Simplify3D only because it offers so much more control.

Re: How do you print two colours using duo?

I am feeling a bit foolish - I found the problem. I had selected the colour of extruders BUT didn't do it the 3rd place. Right clicking on the object and selecting the correct extruder. It was thanks to you both that I got going.

Thanks again

Re: How do you print two colours using duo?

Is the STL file in 2 parts? if not, you can only use 1 color. Load 2 or more files. Right click each and assign which extruder you want. Print.

Yes that that the 3rd step that I had not done thank you.
