how hot can the thermostat get? Mine will only read up to 80 C ( I have it stuck in the insulation) but I can fill the brass nozzle getting insanely hot and the filastruder will spit out filament rather nicely. Could I have possibly already burnt the thermostat?
If you stuck it in the insulation then you measure the insulation which is of course way lower than the nozzle.
There is a little hole for the thermistor/thermocouple wire on the side of the nozzle that gives you the best temp reading. The thermo element can endure much higher temps than the heater can provide so I dont think you can burn it.
To answer your question, measurements of up to 350C are possible with the included thermocouple.
From the instructions, page 5:
Insert thermocouple in brass plug.
This also means you ignored the part in the instructions about getting to 180C before extruding.
Its times like these that make me thankful I designed the Filastruder with only enough heater power to reach 230C or so. If you did this with a Filabot/Strudittle, you'd probably have a fire on your hands right now.
