Topic: Swapping Hot Ends on a Duo
Anyone have experience with replacing the Hot Ends on a Duo? My goals are:
- Be able to run just about any filament, including ABS, PLA, CopperFill, WoodFill, NinjaFlex, Conductive ABS, Carbon Fiber Filament and Magnetic Iron PLA
- Retain existing controller board and as much original hardware as possible
- Modify existing Repetier Formware as little as possible
The research I've done leads to believe:
- This can be accomplished
- requires a direct drive setup (as opposed to Bowden)
- may require sacrificing max print speeds
- may require sacrificing vertical print space
- will cost @ $250 + prints
I'm wondering if folks have suggestions on which hot ends might be a good fit (without devolving into religious wars) and if my assumptions above are wrong. Additional questions:
- can Davinci hotend carriage mods for single-extruders be realistically repurposed for dual-extruder models?
- are there existing dual-extruder hot ends (e.g.: Chimera) that can be used with the Duo, and if so what firmware mods would they require?
- is it realistic to modify only a single hot end or are the mods significant enough that I might as well do both hotends?
Thanks in advance
