Topic: Removing top solids.

I own the XYZ 1.0 AiO. I was trying to print out a vase. I set the density to hollow (0%) and press print. However, after the scan the top layer is still there. The insides of the vase is hollow but there is a layer covering the top part of it. Is there a way to remove the top solids from the print. If so, where can I find this option in the program? Thanks

it is my understanding that the scanning feature is not meant to just scan and print. You then have to open the file and further edit it. Such as in your case make the top hollow. The scanner cannot tell what is hollow or solid if it see a dark area it just assumes a solid. You have to edit the opening in by hand. There is supposed to be an editing software package included that is used to clean up a scan and do what you want to do.

I think by "scanning" he really means slicing.

I don't know which software you are using, but in slic3r you have to set top solid layers to 0 to have a model printed without top layers.

Davinci 1.0&1.0A with repetier 0.92 firmware & E3D bowden
Slicer - Simplify3d/CraftWare/MatterControl/Repetier Host
Filament - ABS, PLA, FPE, LayWood
3D modelling - Autodesk 3DS Max, Blender,

Re: Removing top solids.

That was my bad, i meant to type slicing. I'm using the xyzware right now. will slic3r work with the printer?

Re: Removing top solids.

It won't work with "stock" xyzware, but you can try the moded version over from voltivo: http://voltivo.com/forum/davinci-softwa … e-open-mod

Or you can flash your printer with repetier and use repetier host to control the printer. Numerous tread are about that.
