Topic: SD4 extractor fan useful?

I've just realized my SD4 extractor fan isn't spinning, and it's difficult to turn by hand, so it's probably never worked, but I've had the printer for 90 days so I'm out of warranty, so I thought I'd check with the experts here:

Is the SD4 extractor fan useful?  Do I care if it's running or not?  Should I just unplug it to save the power, or is it worth replacing?

I've got a lot of 40mm 12V fans kicking around if it's useful to have one running, but I suspect there's enough ventilation around the cracks and holes in the case, the door, the top, etc that it may not be necessary.  I can smell ABS or PLA upstairs when I'm printing, so it's by no means airtight...

Thanks!

Re: SD4 extractor fan useful?

I took mine off and used it to cool my
RUMBA board instead: have used multiple brands of filament and never had a problem with smell or the need for fan. I wound up taping all holes in back to keep inside as warm as possible.

"All your base are belong to us." SD4 with a RUMBA, supernight PS, 40mm fan on X motor, lawsey carriages with new better tolerance rods, flanged rear bearings, new NEMA 17 with leadscrew on Z-Axis, and e3d v6 with MK5.
