Topic: Filament EEPROM settings??

I recently bought a new DaVinci 1.0 with the new board (the one you have to jump J37) and put Repetior mod .92 on it. And I LOVE this thing. There's a few problems I'm having though. I stupidly took the bed out of factory calibration instead of just setting the bed to -3.00. Any way I can get it back to factory? It's been a bugger. And here's the other thing. I'm not opposed to using the proprietary cartridges, but honestly, I can get more for less elsewhere. I'm using this printer for manufacturing of E-Cig mechanical mods, and the colors are what I'm known for. So here's the problem. It's 1.75mm ABS 1KG spool. It feeds when I load into the extruded. It feeds when I start the print, but when I ramp up the speed, it just stops feeding. I've maybe gotten one or two consistant prints using the factory cartridge, but not one so far using the new filament. Is there just a setting i need to change?? Or is there something more complex. Thanks!!! And also, since i haven't gotten the bed quite right, it always rubs when the layers are forming. Any help counts!! Thanks!! And I'm also using Repetier Host.

So what speed are we talking about. Also you should know increasing speed tequires increasing temperature. The filament acts as a heatsink and the faster you feed it the more heat it pulls from the heater block. It can actually drop the heating block below melt temp if you dont increase it to compensate.

Like the fastest available. Running at 225. Im using this thing for production.

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

By speeds I mean perimeter speeds, infill speeds, small perimeter speeds and so on. In a nutshell on this printer at least you should set these speeds in a range of 30 to 50 and no higher. This printer cannot handle higher speeds. So the higher speed of 50 would be your infills and inside perimeters the top and bottom speeds would be 40 or so and the outside and small perimeters would be 30.

These machines are not up to production speeds and that is across the board on all FFF printers. They are slow by nature. The work around for most that use them for production is to have many of them running. I have heard of one guy who has a shop[ and runs 20 printers at one time to keep up.

At the price these are you want to consider picking up a few more if you have a schedule to meet. You are not going to do it by trying to force the machine beyond it's ability. I have not been able to print anything on this machine at a setting above 60 and that includes raising my temp to 240 which is the safest and highest you can go on a stock head.

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

How do I set perimeter speeds

7

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

And when I was talking about speed, I was talking about feedrate

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

I am assuming since you mention you are running .92 Repetier firmware then you are also running Repetier host. In the Slicer configuration you set all your variables in their. Desired layer thicknesses, all the speeds, temperatures for the bed and head, even the real diameter of your filament to better control feed volume.

Yep I'm running Repetier Host. What are your suggestions for settings?

I am work right now so I can look at my settings right now. What layer height do you typically print at?

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

Typically 1-3mm mostly 2mm though. 80-100% dense,

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

At  .2mm layers my settings are usually set to the following.

Perimeters 40mm/s
Small Perimeters 30mm/s
External Perimeters 30mm/s
Infill 40 maybe 50mm/s
Solid infill 30mm/s
Top Solid Infill 20mm/s Slow to look good.
Support material 50mm/s
Support material interface 50mm/s
Bridges 30mm/s
Gap fill 20 mm/s

These speeds will be slower than what you do now but will be dependable in respect to constant feeds and appearance of surfaces.

Like I said these machines are not built for speed and intended for occasional one shot prototypes. If you need production speeds then you will need to run several at the same time to keep up.

If you run .3mm layers just bump all the values up 5 and if you run .1 layers which the Da Vinci 1.0 is not really capable of then you need to drop the speeds by 5. But those speeds for .2 layers should get you in the ball park and you can tweak them some if you need to. But I print with these all the time so you should be fine.

One important step is to measure your filament (with calibers) in several locations and average the number then place that number in the filament diameter under the filament settings tab. This is important as it affects your flow rate and volume.

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

I really appreciate it!! I'll give it a try! Is there an easy way to calibrate the bed?? I have a problem with the prints, whenever it starts the structure, weather it's a brim or raft (CuraEngine) the first layer almost ALWAYS messes up and I have to start everything over again. Any suggestions for that?? I was running the extruder at 225 and the bed at 90.

Look at the top of this section for the sticky called bed leveling for beginners. Everyone uses and confirms it is by far better than the auto method that is inaccurate.

Re: Filament EEPROM settings??

Thanks!! I measured my filament with my calipers, everything seems to be correct. What could cause the filament to just stop extracting mid print!?

If the temp drops below melt point due to the heater stopping it will stop the filament. Check the connection above the extruder while watching the temp and see if it changes when you play with the connection. It is known to be bad or go bad.

How would I go about fixing it?

Go get some alternate connector like bullet connectors or even just wire nuts. Cut out the original connecter, crimp on new connectors of your choice or just twist wires with wire nuts. Some even just solder them together and cover them with shrink tubing or electrical tape.

What fill pattern do I need to use if I'm running 100%?

If you have an RC or Airsoft shop around your area you can get them there as well if you want them now.. They are very common in the Radio Control Hobbies for battery connections.

They require you to solder the wires to them. If you don't want or can't solder you can get get male and female insulated blade terminals at Home Depot or Lowes. They are color coded for wire size so get the red ones. Blue is too small and Yellow is too large.
