Topic: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

im using extra hold hair spray on my SD3,
fitted with a glass bed.
the nozzle is in my opinion perfectly close to the bed and the PLA is just rolling off when I print.
I printed a part last night that was functional but not aesthetically good.
but stuck like a freakin champ.

so now that its not sticking what could be my issue?,
im at the point where I print the test box to get the flow rate dialed in.

any ideas?

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

I don't know PLA but for those who do it would be helpful if you provided your bed and hotend temperatures.

3

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

bed zero since I use blue painter tape right now, even though I can heat my bed
head 200.

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

218c for E3D, 190c stock, 60c bed.

From what you are describing, after 20 prints or so, I run into that issue and either give it a fine mist and let sit, or clean the glass completely, add the HS once dry, let sit, then I need a hammer and chisel to get it off.
However...you say that the part last night adhered well. So did you change anything?

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

last night was on hair spray with 110 degree bed.
now im getting adhesion with no bed temp and blue tape.

I think my issue is I was trying to fry the hairspray on,
but the bed wasn't hot enough so it was still a "hair" wet when it started printing.
ill test more but prints are producing.

so we are good so far.  tongue

on this note:
has anyone, had issues with printing proto pastas carbon fiber filament?
like clogs and such?

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

printing with an SD3
bed 110
head is 215
using an ED2
printing on a glass bed with hair spray.
bed is level

the first lay looks like crap.
and I even have the z offset at a -.0125 just to make sure it doesn't back away too far.
filament is input at 1.77
ratio is at .8 and that's up from where it came out at as .56 after doing the test box

why is my first lay so scarce?

layers after that are good,
but I have no idea why the first layer is so skinny.

why does reptier host slice so horribly?
I tried using kisslicer but I just don't know enough about it to get it to send gcode that is good.
prints essentially come out really course and no good detail.

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

I don't know what an ED2 is so I will assume you mean E3d.  Why would houser your z offset to a negative number.  Set it at zero and adjust your bed till the nozzle is almost touching with the z endstop adjustment screw.  Then set your first layer height in your slic3r profile to .2963 set other layers to that same number.  Then try a print and stop it right after it makes the first loop.
It should lay a nice ribbon on the bed.  Repeat adjusting the screw until it looks nice.
I suspect your nozzle is too close to the bed preventing filament from flowing out properly.

Scratch that last comment just watched your video your nozzle is too far from the bed.  You want it to squish that first layer.

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

ive been trying,
the printer brings the nozzle up on the first layer.
its almost like its bringing it up a full layer height.

and I have the thing buried almost. lol

so I know my manual leveling is spot on if not, close to.

could I have a partial clog? hmm

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

but the second layer lays like a freakin champ, and I know the print is flat. I designed it. lol
and I laid it flat in the object placement.

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

Any chance you can shoot a video of the start sequence.  I am guessing you have several things set incorrectly.  A screen shot of your start code would be helpful as well.
Did you make the changes I suggested earlier?

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

im not sure what this means?

its been so long since I have used this printer it all escapes me now.

I remember at one point doing ardunio loader and stuff with that.
but I don't remember it at all since it was step by step and I wasn't able to learn it.
I changed my code to this hmm no good.

this just goes to show how bad I am at this.

EDIT***
so I put that code in, I have to home my axis' everytime but it works like a champ, as I can tell so far.
now I just need to learn why, again.

now how do I get my slicing better?
ive done net fab cloud, but some of the files I have, just don't print well it rephost slicer.

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

I was having problems with this as well I just now recently fixed it
I had to do a mod to my prob and you need to set your nozzle to .48 not .42
And I use purple glue sauce

It won't home on its own?  Let me think on that for a bit.

dang layers are splitting. poo

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

What are you setting for layer height?
Sounds like you have some calibrating to do.

21

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

what its at .3 and first layer .35.

22

Re: so been away awhile, first layer not sticking!!!!!!!

Set those both at .2963
If you are asking what to calibrate?
Steps per mm on your extruder and extrusion multiplier.  Do a single wall calibration cube and set the multiplier until you achieve a single wall width of .48.
You will also want to set your extrusion width to .48
