Topic: Holy jesus night and day...SD really dropped the ball-mods

Ok so I added lawseys carriages w new rods, had the rear flanged bearings, upgraded to leadscrew on z-axis, added e3d v6. Prints have never looked so good. .3 now looks better than stock .1...all in all after pretty much rebuilding the thing I have prints that I thought I'd mever achieve...if youve followed my disaster you could see why I'm ecstatic.

"All your base are belong to us." SD4 with a RUMBA, supernight PS, 40mm fan on X motor, lawsey carriages with new better tolerance rods, flanged rear bearings, new NEMA 17 with leadscrew on Z-Axis, and e3d v6 with MK5.

Get a fan on that e3d. It's not optional.

I broke the one it came with when pushing clip on have another on its way...ill hold off on prints till than. Didnt know it was needed. What happens without it...clogs or wrecks whole thing!?

The filament will get hot and bend so you'll get inconsistent extrusion. As far as i know this is the worst that can happen. I had my fan get disconnected early on when I first set up my e3d and came back to a print with terrible delamination and poor extrusion.

Edit: well, there's PTFE tubing in there also, so while it may not "bend", it will get hot enough to be soft and it won't extrude well.

Okay, as usual ty sir...hook up as constant or gcode fan...I assume G code and Ill just manually turn it on when code doesnt call for it

Re: Holy jesus night and day...SD really dropped the ball-mods

Constant. Not GCode. A gcode fan would point at the nozzle to cool extruded plastic.  In your case you need it on FAN1 of the rumba.

If your fans don't work, make sure CONTROLLERFAN_PIN in Config_adv.h is set to pin 8.

Okay I cut wires for old one and think its on gcode pin, ill wire it up and move it over. As usual my assumptions are wrong lol

Re: Holy jesus night and day...SD really dropped the ball-mods

Yep FAN0 is GCode, also see my edit above if FAN1 doesn't work. FAN1 only works when the motors have power(and a short time after they turn off). So plug it in and command the motors. If the fans don't turn on, you need to edit Config_adv.h

I love this feature of the rumba. You don't know how loud even the highest quality fans are until they turn off.

Solidoodle sometimes gets the fan bundle color codes backwards. I roasted about 30 bucks worth of really good fans thanks to their incompetence (seems my machine was started before lunch break on a Friday and finished off by an intern who had better things to do). So... Keep that in mind. Brushless motors don't spin in reverse like usual DC motors, they give up their magic smoke instead.

yeah but as a coworker of mine told the boss after he smoked our 3rd and last in stock $300 modulating motor for 3 way valve on large chiller. "it only smoked a teeny bit and I killed power right away" LMAO cause he had 2 black wires and they where backwards on 24v control

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs
