Topic: Is this a machine or software issue?

Printing this model part and the tall thin parts look pretty awful.  Machine is calibrated well at .015 mm nozzle height.

XYZware settings:
Quality: Excellent w/supports
Density: 20%
Shells: normal
Layer Height: .3
Speed: slow

Any suggestions on solutions would be highly appreciated.   I have seen this issue on a smaller scale on previous prints.  I understand the difficulties of attempting to massage the machine to print this tall/thin object.  Just wondering if this is the performance threshold for this machine without using aftermarket firmware & software.

Forgot to add:

Using XYZ Natural Filament.
Machine has all the shims in place.
Heating bed adhesion is excellent.

The lack of layer minimum time limits in the stock software will cause it to start the next layer before the last one had time to cool off. I have seen people put extruder fans pointing at the print which works okay. But from experience I placed two of the same object on different sides of the print bed to allow the layer to cool while the other object was printing.

When doing larger prints that two objects just isn't feasible I would put a tall thin tower in a corner so that it would require the extruder to travel for a little while before moving to the next layer.

With cura and slic3r I use minimum times which move the head out of the way for a short time while the layer cools down before it move to the next. Not sure if people have had success with thin when using the slicers and the stock firmware.

Oops should have printed two.  Forgot about that trick.  Thanks for the reminder. 

Would increasing the infill help with the structure strength?

Right now your problem is not strength. The issue is the head is staying on the part too long and the temp of the previous layer is too high for next layer to be added. More infill will just be more material to hold heat longer. You need to print two maybe three at once so the extruder is off of the previous layer for at least 5 seconds.

For thin parts like that, I use Cura to slice and a fan mounted around the head.
Cura gives the option to change the printing speed at any specified layer.
I tend to set the thinnest parts to print at around 10 mm/s or less.
I don't think it's possible to print that slow with xyzware.

I agree the print head is not off the piece long enough before starting next layer.  I think if I add a couple cylinders away from the piece I want will help a lot.
