Topic: .1 resolution

Tried printing 9gram quad servo horn at .1 res with raft. but got nothing but a glob of plastic on extruder. Not sure if it was raft issue or res. Reprinted at .2 no raft and it printer but part was useless. Lost all detail. Is this to small to print?

Re: .1 resolution

You would need forced air cooling and print about 5 on the bed so the head does not stay on any one for too long.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: .1 resolution

I'm assuming this is the part you're trying to print ... http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:180394
If so, this is going to be VERY difficult to print on the Davinci !
If you look closely at the STL, you'll see the bottom of it is not flat. It's raised about 0.5mm by the cylinder in the middle. I think this is the main reason you're having trouble with it.
It'll need support but I can't see how you could get enough under the four arms to get a decent print.
Of course, it would be much easier to print if the bottom was completely flat. Meshmixer or Slic3r could do that for you.

Re: .1 resolution

Try turning it upside down.  It uses more material for the support, but it might come out better.

I think you'd still have the same problem, unfortunately. The only difference between the top and the bottom is the height of the cylinder, which is higher at the top.

Re: .1 resolution

According to the thingiverse comments it has never been successfully printed. The picture is of the injection molded part that actually came with  his servo.

Re: .1 resolution

Yeah, I wondered about that, seeing as there were no "makes".
Unless you trim the bottom flat, I can't see how it could be done on any printer.

Re: .1 resolution

on my Solidoodle 2 in Slic3r I check the "enforce support" box and number of layers till it has full contact with bottom. on tiny prints like this and my N scale vehicles with wheels on model.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: .1 resolution

try printing 2 or 3 at the time.. so the plastic can cool down a bit when extruder is away.

and also, here is one with a flat bottom

cheers
