Topic: Bed Calibration - glass not flat - need some help

Setup:

Da Vinci 1.0a running repeteir .92 using simplify3d

Need some help. I have spent the last couple of nights trying to get my bed calibrated. Started with using the manual calibration in repetier .92 and a piece of paper. Could never get the front and back in line and the middle always seemed a little high. Then tried with using simplyfi3d's manual leveling utility. Couldn't seem to nail it with that either. Then I went to the sticky post on how to calibrate (and started using a .152mm feeler gauge) and that is where I noticed what my problem seems to be. I can get all three spots (over the adjusting screws) to calibrate pretty good, but noticed as the fan would kick on, it would grab the paper with more force as I tried to move it. By just sitting there for another 10 seconds, it would become a little more loose. I am still having an issue with the middle of the bed though. It is always tighter there as compared to the sides. I'm assuming my glass is bowing up in the middle. So, two questions:

1. Is it normal for the glass to be bowing up in the middle. Any adjustments I can do to make it more flat overall?

2. As I was doing the calibration, the heat bed would fluctuate between 89c to 91c (had it set for 90c) and I could actually see the gap between the nozzle and extruder go up and down. Should I just go slower when I'm at each point and calibrate for the fluxuation when the bed and nozzle are at their closest point? Am I over thinking this?

It is a known issue that the glass is not flat nor as thick as it should be. The best you can do is get all points as close as possible to .15 and it should be OK. You could get thicker glass cut to the size you need. The screws that secure the glass have nearly a 1/4" of extra thread. You would just have to compensate for the extra thickness with the leveling screws. Just put the new glass on top of the old glass since the heating element is glued to the old glass.

Do you know if the temperature would be affected by adding a second glass ? I would think so.
I am looking to address the bed warping issue by maybe buying a reprap heated bed like skywiselh did.

Glass is an excellent thermal conductor. As long as the new piece has near full contact with the old piece it should be at the same temp. The heater will just see s thicker piece of glass and will take twice as long to reac temp. But will be fine once there. Several here have already done it with no issues.
