Topic: Cant read LCD screen

Hello
Im having trouble with my LCD screen on my DaVinci 1.0.
I completed a print last night and everything was normal.  Today I booted the printer and started a print and now the screen is very difficult to read.
The screen illuminates as it should, but the black lettering is very faint.  When I first turned it on and began a print, it started to fade and now I can barely read the top two lines; build percentage and time passed, the remaining lines are blank.

Perhaps something loosened on the screen during or after the print?
Has anyone removed the front panel or LCD that could lend some tips or suggestions?

In the worst case scenario, are these screens available to replace?  My quick google/ebay/amazon/etc searches came up pretty empty.
Thanks!

Re: Cant read LCD screen

There was an issue with earlier models getting the ribbon cable damaged by it rubbing during shipping. You will need to take the side panels off so the from panel can be removed and you can examine the ribbon cable for damage. That ribbon cable is the only wire that goes from the main board to the LCD. So if the cable is not bad then the LCD is bad.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Thank you for the reply, it was quite easy to take apart.  I saw a youtube video on that issue, but I dont see any physical damage, like an exposed wire.  I even unmounted the LCD board from the panel to see if the cable was loose but it seems rock solid.
The only thing I noticed was the top panel left two slight impressions on the ribbon cable, but it doesnt appear to be broken.
I have also emailed XYZ Support for help.

Update

I removed the LCD screen ribbon cable and did a continuity test.  Each individual wire of the cable works and completes a circuit, so the problem must be the circuit board or LCD screen.  Ive had my printer about 5 months now so XYZ Support should be able to help me get up and running again.

Should being the operative word. Based on what I have seen here though if the part is an internal part that is bad they typically ask for the entire unit to be sent back and they will repair or replace at their discretion. Parts like the print head or the bed they will often send to you and let you do the work. From what I have seen they will let a consumer do the work of replacing a part if the part is one that can be purchased in the XYZ store. If it is not listed in the store they may ask for the entire printer to be sent back.

One last thing you can look at, is most LCD displays have a Contrast adjustment. It is possible you might be able to adjust yours back to where it needs to be. Look on the display circuit board and see if it has a POT or Potentiometer. Use a small screw driver while the display is on and see if adjusting one way or the other has any affect.

The pot should resemble one in the picture.

Have to wait for image, photobucket is down.

Good idea, Ill have to check for an adjustment pot.

XYZ Support responded quickly and will be sending me a replacement LCM (the LCD unit I assume), so hopefully Ill be back to printing in no time!

Re: Cant read LCD screen

XYZ Support was able to replace my LCD board with a new one and I have been happily printing for the past week without issue.
I have 220 hours of lifetime on my printer, so it could have failed due to use.
