Topic: cart eeprom writing, can it be prevented?

OK, so I overcame the cart issue by switching to Simplify3D, but the printer itself still decrements the amount of filament used from the eeprom, thus, I still have to use xyz filament only because the printer wont print when the cart reports empty.

I really prefer not to downgrade the firmware, as the 1.2.5 im using is much better than the 1.1.J that everyone recommends, and I still have yet to see a stable repetier build that I would use.

SO!  Im hoping there is a way to simply prevent the eeprom from being updated by the printer, anyone know how this can be done?

I am not aware of a specific way at stock to prevent this from happening (communication).  I use XYZZEROCART to reset things and don't need to worry about the counter.  There are other re-setters out there as well but the XYZZEROCART was wireless and pretty easy to deal with.  I also block XYZ from "phoning" home.

it is easy to reflash the eeprom to 240m then just use whatever you want and run an empty cart. or rewind a spool and put it in your cartridge and run it from the cartridge. if you dont have an arduino to flash the eeprom then order a arduino nano for around $4.00. I just refilled my cart with some pla then programmed the eeprom temps to 190 for extruder and 50 for bed. it only takes a few min to do and is well worth it.

I just need to know that the xyzerocart will work with the 1.2.5 firmware, if someone can confirm this for me, I'll buy it immediately

Their website will tell you what firmware Zerocart work on... I think it's the best thing since sliced bread myself...
