Topic: Bed traveling too low. bottoming out.

What what determines how low the bed will travel down after the print is done? And can it be changed?
I am installing a b3 pico head and my head will be a lot lower  than the stock. So I am changing the top z stop sensor at the top, to a lower position, but when the print is done the bed is traveling all the way down and then some causing the z motor to grind. Ideas?

Re: Bed traveling too low. bottoming out.

What you are looking for is an EEPROM setting called MAX Z travel. Based on the home position which in you case is now lower the MAX Z is 200mm from that position. So if you have Repetier installed and Rep Host it allows you access the EEPROM Settings and change them. If you are running stock then you cannot change that setting. In a nut shell you need to take away from the Z max what ever you added to the home.

Ok thank you very much. I guess its time to switch to repetier.  I am 100% new to repetier,  Do you know a link that I go to too learn how to install repetier and how to set up the settings? thanks

Or Do you know If I buy simplify 3D that I also make the changes needed?  Rather not flash the machine if I can help it.

That software does not allow you to access the EEPROM settings in fact as long as you are running stock firmware it is impossible to access the settings you need .

Ok I will switch to repetier. Where is a good place to find all of the settings I need and how to do it?

That would be where the issue is, there is not a real guide of any kind. Flashing and firmware edits is one of those experience things and I have yet seen a real guide done by any one..

Ok thanks. I just flashed it and install the firmware and software. I watched a youtube video on slicer settings. Not sure what to do next. I guess set the xyz travel rates? Not sure what is next I need to do?  100% New to repetier here.

If you are using the actual Da Vinci fork of Rep firmware then the only thing you need to change is the Z- offset which on mine was -3.05. The rest of the settings are already set up. You may need to manually adjust your bed to avoid the nozzle hitting the first time you check the level as it may be too high if you where on stock.

The firmware is all preconfigured.
