Topic: Great Site for Hardware Component CAD Download

Just found a great site, Southco Fastener, which allows free CAD downloads of most items in their catalog.  Great stuff if you are incorporating Buttons, locks and latches into your projects!

How about electronic components? I'd like to make a case someday with a tight fitting hole for a mini-usb connector (on a teensy board), and haven't liked the idea of manually modelling it.

Most of the industrial manufacturer/distributor web sites have 3D data available in different formats.  Most of it is so simplistic that you can model it faster than downloading it.  And a lot is envelope style (over-all sizes & nice pictorial) - not functional.

I use http://www.bostongear.com a lot, as well as http://www.carrlane.com.

This site has all kinds of general hardware in all kinds of formats including STL. Remember those cabinet handles that you saw for $8 a piece and you said "I could print that".

Misumi USA also offers CAD downloads on a lot of their components

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

For electronics Allied electronics has gone so far as to offer free CAD software as well as component files.
Reid tool now http://www.essentracomponents.com/ Is another one that offers cad files.
