just curious, what bed temps are the best for pla. I always use abs and just got some pla in. I print on glass. should I do the blue paint or will like 70 c be good?

220c for the E3D/60c for the bed.
I would recommend glass and hairspray over tape as it never really worked well for me.

I dont ned a heatbed whit PLA, but use paintertape and gluestick, works like a charme, have to pull tape off the bed that good it sticking...

220c is for ABS right? PLA extrudes much cooler than ABS. high temps have bad effects on PLA. and heated bed only for 1st layer like 70c

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

This has been covered many times over the forum. So just to be clear:
Stock hotend | E3D
-----------------|------
PLA- 190c      | 220c
ABS- 210c      | 240c

With PLA, one does not require a heated surface. If using one, 60c is the common setting.
ABS needs a heated bed. Heat settings for which is best at or over 95c

As a side note, the E3D not only uses a more precise thermistor, but it is also located in a more accurate spot which is why the settings are different.
PLA will also require a fan for optimal results.

I printed PLA exclusively for a few months (40+ hours per week). If you have any questions, I'll help you out the best of my knowledge.

One thing I recommend with PLA...don't buy cheap filament. Some brands (JustPLA for example) clogs before the first spool is halfway out. PLA can be easier to work with, especially with lifting, but precautions need to be taken. i.e. added a 40mm/30// fan to follow the nozzle, or removing the enclosure and setting up a desk fan. Also, over doing the extruder temp can gum up your nozzle.

I used a honey well heater that doubles as an air fan. When heating the chamber I keep it on hi heat. When running the actually job with pla I put it on a stool and direct it on cool at the print. Been working pretty well so far. I get my filament from maker geeks usually.
