His settings could come in handy for other programs as well though. FFF files won't do other users any good.

Tip: *.fff files are actually just XML files. You can just open them with any extension-agnostic text editor and have a nicely formatted settings doc that can be input elsewhere.

Build docs (*.factory) are binary files as they appear to capture STL, STL modifications and Process setting info in one place, therefore can't be shared.

Just got done printing this zombie hunter head. Turned out pretty good at .2 layer height and 5% infill.

Re: Simplify 3D

Wow, that does look really nice. Much better than I expected it to look.

I actually pulled the cord and grabbed a license. Hopefully the results will be much better.

So far I'm just printing some parts for a rubber band six shooter (something fun I've been wanting to print).

We'll see how they turn out. I know what my printed parts look like via XYZ's software. I haven't tried Repetier yet, but the interesting part is that I may not need to move to Repetier in order to get the e3D working. It appears that in the settings for Simplify 3D you can change the print head size, so I might be able to accomodate it via that and not need Repetier at all, which might be rather nice.

Re: Simplify 3D

It honestly printed MUCH better than the XYZ software.

The only thing that didn't come out nicely was the top finish. There was a bit too much filament on the top layer in some of the 'inner' areas.

Outside of that, it is FAR superior to the XYZ software.

I can't compare to Repetier at this point though. Maybe Repetier would have given the same results.

I'll be more interested once I finally finish setting up my e3D in the coming weeks.

Re: Simplify 3D

So, for those that have Simplify 3D....
Does anyone also have an e3D installed?

Could we use Simplify3D to print and NOT install Repetier host while using the e3D? I'm curious if I change the nozzle size (I'll be moving to a 0.25mm nozzle to get some finer resolution on some parts), if it'll work fine without repetier host? This really interests me now, since I LOVE using Simplify 3D.

I really need to take the time and do 2 prints using the same material and print, but make it print with XYZ and with Simplify 3D to show the difference.

Re: Simplify 3D

You can adjust nozzle size in the simplify 3d . But i believe you will need to access the firmware for the other setting the e3d may need adjusting for.

Re: Simplify 3D

If you are switching to an E3D and only the hot end then the only changes you have to make is the nozzle size in your host. If you are also changing the extruder and using a different drive gear then you will need access to your firmware to change the esteps on that motor. Otherwise your feed volume will be wrong.

Again changing hot end only simply requires correct nozzle size. The thermistor is the same standard one used now in the Da Vinci so the temperature tables should be close enough.

What thermistor is used in the stock Da Vinci setup (maker/model)?
