Topic: First Layer Printing/Quality Problems

Hey guys,

I recently switched over to Repetier firmware which was a struggle on its own and spent several days fine tuning Slic3r to print properly. I was finally able to get pretty nice prints but I keep having a first layer problem. (I attached a picture so you can see it). As you can see there is repeated gaps between the other layers and the first layer. What settings do I need to change in Slic3r to fix this because I'm already so happy with the improved print quality of Repetier, I don't want to take a step back. (I also attached pictures of my Slic3r settings).

Thanks in advance

Re: First Layer Printing/Quality Problems

Looking at you settings, the minimum layer height the stock extruder can do reliably is .2, not .1. Then you should not have a Z offset in your slicer settings. The offset is stored in your EEPROM file on the SD CARD and is firmware controlled. Then your bed is set too low or to far from the nozzle. The gap between nozzle and bed should be half of your layer height. You also should keep the first layer height the same as the other layers. Due to your bed height is will squish the first layer down as it should and the rest will be your set layer height.

Use the manual bed calibration process that is a sticky at the top of this section. The see if your bottom layer is not better. If the bed is at the right height which is the core of your issue based on the images then the individual lines will be squished and pushed together to where it is near solid. You may see very fine lines between the layers but it should look near solid if the bed is calibrated correctly.

The values the auto setup get you to setup for are incorrect ( usually too large) because bed height is based on layer height and the printer does not know what height you are using per model.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
