Topic: Intro
Hello, I am Mark Rehorst, aka the_digital_dentist at the Milwaukee Makerspace. I was an electrical engineer for 22 years then went back to school for 6 years and now I am a dentist. My home hobby projects have always been more interesting (to me) than anything I ever worked on as an engineer. You can see some of my stuff here at mark.rehorst.com.
I have a never ending printer project called MegaMax, a RepRap type printer, that I have been working on for the last two years. It has about 1 cuft build volume. Every time I get it dialed in perfectly, I decide something needs to change. Recent uemployment has allowed me time to make some major changes including changing the controller from ATMega2560/RAMPS to SmoothieBoard, and converting the Y axis from belt to screw drive. I am in the process of changing the X axis from using round guide rails to a linear guide, and redesigning the extruder carriage to accommodate a PCB with a simple dual row header to make all connections. Unfortunately, I'll be back to work again in a month and progress will drop precipitously, so I'm trying to get as much done as I can in the time remaining.
I just ordered a BullDog XL extruder and a E3D V6 hot end and will be installing them when they arrive.
Once the printer changes are "done" (will they ever be?), I'll go back and revisit previous work I did on the SnakeBite extruder.
