DaVinci 1.0 Reboots randomly while printing

The heater cartridge is powerd by 12vdc. if the wires coming out of its core touch together or one them touches the heater block and is not insulated then they will shut down the power supply and cause it to reset. My guess is your heater cartridge is loose and moving around when the the head moves, the wires are bumping together during movement. Something is causing a short. I would suggest heating the machine so power is applied to the heater. The starting at the top where the head connects to the harness start moving, twisting, and pulling on the wires doing it gently but firm enough to make them move around and see if you get a rest then.

After cleaning and insulating the heater wires, the issue still continued. I started unplugging the USB cable from the printer itself after the print started and the issue has not returned.  I tend to unplug the cable from my computer once I start a print so one end of the cable was resting on a glossy table surface, with the other end plugged into the printer. I maybe in a high static environment or something, it is winter and the air in my house is very dry. That's the theory I'm going with right now.

Several other have reported this as well so it sounds like the newer setup..

I got my da Vinci 1.0 at Xmas and have had one successful print with it; one of the samples (very nice).
When I tried to print something more complex it just stopped printing part way. After finding this forum I have been recalibrating successfully (thanks) between prints. I thought I had it sussed and went to bed with it happily printing away.
But, this morning I find the part about 25% printed, the print-head at home base and the printer re-initializing every 30 seconds or so. On and off.
It stopped when I switched the machine off and on and now, after recalibrating, I am trying again. With the laptop unplugged.
Any suggestions or theories about what's going wrong will be appreciated but please note; I'm a total noob when it comes to 3D printing, probably wouldn't have one yet if Da Vinci wasn't so affordable, so any suggestions that involve tearing the thing apart are not going to be especially useful. And it has a years warranty so I'll leave the open heart surgery to the experts. After they get back from holiday.

Update, about 12 hours later.
This time it printed all the way through..!? Great result.
But why? Same file. Was it disconnecting the laptop that made the difference? That's pretty much all I did. I think this result eliminates a hardware fault like a short or bad print head connection.
Theories anyone?

Got my DaVinci 1.0  on 12/29/2014 and printed for about 17 hours successfully, yesterday while half-way though printing a sleeve for my pi, it shut down and failed to reboot until multiple tries. I was able to print another project with it just fine, but when I tried sending the next project to the printer it would reboot, I tried a different project from the same model and it also rebooted. tried another previously printed job and it worked fine. My conclusion thinks it's a software issue, but that doesn't explain why it doesn't always boot from a cold start... I've also noticed XYZ has changed the boards from the previous models and are using micro sd cards located near the middle of the board, and the firmware reset pins are gone.

I also saw this a couple times when I left the USB cable plugged into printer. Only other time has been while using the metal brush to clean the hotend and accidentally making contact.

I've since switched to using Octopi as a print server. Works wonderfully, I suggest you give it a try if you have a spare computer or minicomputer.

I have had mine for nearly 4 months know. I have carpet throughout my apartment and have yet to have an issue of any kind with the machine resetting rather it is static or not. Sounds like maybe you should check the outlet you are using and confirm it is actually grounded. Sometimes to cut corners or just through forgetting some outlets don't get grounded. Or if someone replaced it at some point they may not have grounded it. The USB ports shield at least on mine is in contact with the metal frame which is in contact with the power supply which is tied to earth ground through the power cable. So if you measured from the shell to the end of the cable that goes to the wall and you have continuity then the break is in your house wiring or the outlet. Static should never affect one of these printers.

I solved part of my issue with the printer failing to initialize. If my computer is off and the usb is connected, the printer won't initialize, but if I unplug the usb or start the computer first, it will initialize like it suppose to. I think some of the shutdown issues while printing stem from the model file. I have one model from thingyverse that causes it to reboot just as the file is finished being received by the printer. Other part files of the same model causes this so I'm assuming it's a software issue. Other than that, my printer is working great. I'm finding out that we newbies need to learn more about modeling software than I originally thought.  XYZ needs to print an extensive FAQ in their support page. Right now they automatically want to open a support ticket if you ask them a question...
