Re: Introducing Three New Solidoodle Models

..or why they are not shipped directly to us, if they are already inspected by a member of Solidoodle ??

Re: Introducing Three New Solidoodle Models

This really sucks. When I ordered I expected to get it well before Christmas, and with the first delay, I thought I'd at least get it around Christmas. And now they're shipping the wave up to 26445 from after mid December? At this rate, I'll never get mine, I'm somewhere in the 28xxx's!

Really thinking about cancelling now and getting a DaVinci or so, this is getting ridiculous, and especially that the're only now telling us. sad

Re: Introducing Three New Solidoodle Models

That was the straw that broke the camels back. If I wanted a printer shipped straight from China with no extra QC that's what I would have ordered, there are plenty on eBay. Cancelling now, ordered a daVinci on sale instead. Solidoodles online form doesn't seem to give any confirmation message though, no idea if the cancel request went through or not. I'm sure it will be several days before I hear back from them either way.

Re: Introducing Three New Solidoodle Models

More and more delays. Looks like the norm for SD. It sounds like poor planning. If enough folks cancel their orders , they might get their act together.I guess I'll just rebuild my SD 3.

SD3, E3D hotend, linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

Re: Introducing Three New Solidoodle Models

other printers are being made with more upgrades for less cost now. SD has 3 outdated printers that wont be available b4 they are obsolete. its a shame they started out so well 1st couple years then became slackers discontinuing the models they done right.

It was stated off order numbers. Perhaps the 382 are for parts or SD4s.

Re: Introducing Three New Solidoodle Models

Solidoodle got back to me on my cancellation request. They offered a free roll of filament to keep my press order, or the option to "upgrade" to an sd4 costing $500 that ships on 3-5 days. Meh. I went ahead and cancelled. DaVinci after shipping cheaper than the press was anyway, just put repitier on it and should have the same capabilities.

The numbers don't line up with order numbers 1 for 1. Order "attempts" or cancelled orders toward those numbers as well.

Fun fact: 1kg of Stratasys filament costs $260. A solidoodle press costs $350.

My SD2 shipped in similar packaging in 2012.

Can you explain what is adequate? 2-3 inches of foam padding (like in the picture) is pretty much industry standard. How is this not adequate?

I can't explain it from a theoretical standpoint, but my machine was packed in this exact fashion and arrived with bent sides, a bent door, and a broken fan. There is significant empty space in that packaging, and it is weakest along the points not contacting the foam directly. Additionally, at least in the case of how my printer was packed, things like the power supply were not sufficiently held in place and it was clear they had shifted significantly during shipping. Depending on how they did it with these, and depending on the handling of the package, it is not unreasonable to believe that they could enter the printer and make contact with components because the printer has no enclosure.

If you're looking for my opinion from my experience of receiving hundreds of packages containing things just as fragile as a 3d printer, they should be utilizing air pillows which fill the voids inside the printer, at a minimum. The current packaging at least assures your frame will arrive square, but I don't see how it does much more than that. If they wanted to go above and beyond, air pillows filling the internal voids, and a styrofoam negative of the frame which fills ALL of the empty space, and has divets for the boxes containing tools and the power supply, would be the ideal packaging. There is empty space in this box, and that is bad. I don't care if it's industry standard. What's stopping something from piercing the box on top or the sides? Nothing.

I wish I still had the box my printer came in so I could show you the points where the box was very clearly deformed from the empty space in the box. Raleigh UPS is extremely rough with packages, and anything that makes it to me in one piece without damage is packed correctly. Considering my Solidoodle did not, you cannot argue it is adequate, because an instance of failure exists (but there are many more).

Edit: Actually, I believe I do see air pillows on the inside. I can tell you my printer did not have these, so that's an improvement.

apparently they are shipping USPS not UPS.  I confirmed this though customer service earlier.  maybe Raleigh USPS is Gentler.
