I have always wondered why filamaent is sold by weight not by linear mesurement. If I buy a roll of most anything the amount is in inches, feet ect.Just a random thought.

Because selling by length would encourage suppliers to shave the diameter, selling filament that is actually 1.60mm or 1.65mm.
Selling by weight ensures you get what you paid for.
SO, I guess you won't know if it is 1KG unless you could weigh the new roll of the filament and spool seperately lol That would be a pain tho to unspool a new roll. Maybe a comsumer reports project.
Weigh it when you get it, then weigh the empty spool when you're done if you're concerned.
it should weigh more than 2kg by how much spool weighs. just like food and drink items 'weight minus packaging'

Really, I think I've been getting the short end of the stick!
