The support material printed very close to the model, and when i go to remove it, i end up destroying the model. What do i need to adjust to make both the support material further away from the model but close enough to do its job, and to make the support material thinner for removal?

Re: Support Material Problems

Try experimenting with the extrusion width of support material in slic3r. Also make sure you are using the latest version of slic3r, there are always improvements to support material with each release. Also experiment with the pattern angle--you might find a 45 degree angle support is easier to remove than the 0/90 degree supports here.

It really just comes down to experimentation it seems. I'll let you know when I print perfect supports wink hasn't happened yet. Just play with it and see what you come up with. There aren't really many rules.

Re: Support Material Problems

It's good but email them to get a trial before you buy it. It has things I like and things I hate so you will need to decide for yourself if the pros outweigh the cons. It makes fabulous support material, there's no doubt about that. I don't like its logic for retractions quite as much, but my printer hasn't been working well enough to really hone it in yet.

Re: Support Material Problems

in slicer support settings set support thinner than main perimeters, also find best spacing for good support and then find an angle and shape of support that works best at avoiding becoming parallel to perimeter prints walls. may need to try things like 160% angle, spaced .25mm, etc. some settings will add time to printing but save time on cleanup or wasted prints.

juts because some people claim good prints of an object in 20mins dont mean those results will work for everyone. Id rather take over 2x longer to print an item and get results Im not ashamed to sell. is my way of looking at it.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: Support Material Problems

main thing I dont like about the newest ver RH/slic3rs after 100.0 is you cant install them without deleting/uninstalling all prev versions which I like better for some prints that I dont want to mess with in Netfab b4 printing as I know they work as is.

I like 85b and 95f both for dif features but dont like only 1 of them for everything but prefer other choices. plus my 25 saved profiles work in both

I have it and it is nice. Key thing for me was the manual placement of support material.
Is this the parts you are trying to make
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:376059 Pawn?

If you let me know which Solidoodle you have, and can generate some G-code with minimal support material with the software.

SD2 - Glass Bed, Fans on PCB and Y motor, Custom enclosure
Slicer - Simplify3D

Re: Support Material Problems

Here is the G-code so you can see. If you want to print adjust the temp settings (Bed =100 Extruder=225) to what you normally print with.
