Topic: Why do I keep eating thrust bearings?

I'm using the enclosure, which I'd imagine would help keep things lined up better (but it does heat up inside).

I have a "frankenstruder", which was a #76 from Kickstarter, updated to more modern parts, with the roller thrust bearing instead of the blue one.  That died catastrophically maybe 125 hours into extrusion and took the barrel and auger with it.  The thrust bearing is a metallic pudding.  I reassembled the 'struder with my old parts and the blue bearing, and approximately 125 hours into it again it bound up because the thrust washer was totally destroyed.

The Nylon is worn into a nice cone shape and seated well, the shaft collar is in the right spot, and nothing is grinding against the motor.  I can attach pictures of carnage if I need to...ideas?

Blue bearings couldn't handle the load. They were phased out after v1.0.

Bearings (roller or ball) need to be lubricated to avoid corrosion, which will damage them quickly.

A stronger thrust bearing, ideally roller.

If yours hasn't failed, no need to replace it.
