Topic: extruder filament color question

just assembled the filastruder. manual says first time let it extrude for 6-8 hours to get rid of dirt, dust and metal particles.
Ive been extruding for 3 hours and the filament has a grey tint to it. is this expected, or is the temperature getting too high for some reason? (readout says 185).

Re: extruder filament color question

jaques,
I extrude ABS at 180.  If it gets too hot it can turn grey.  Try turning it down a bit and watch for a few meters.

Re: extruder filament color question

Also note that raw ABS is not white, it is "natural". To ensure white, you would need to add white colorant - otherwise the slightest thing can affect color, such as:

running too hot
oils/dirt on the inside of the barrel (which you are flushing out)
