Topic: Diagonal start up strips

For the first several prints I made, the first layer of the print object started directly on the glass print bed.  Then for reasons unknown, the printer started putting down a layer of diagonal line on the print bed, then the object printing starts on top of the bed of lines.

Is there a way to turn off the construction of this bed of diagonal lines and start the printing directly on the glass?

Re: Diagonal start up strips

If I understand what you describe correctly, your printer is putting down what is called a "raft". There are one of two reasons i know of for this happening. Either 1) you clicked the "raft" box in your print dialog window, OR the object you are printing is not sitting flush with print table top so your DaVinci is adding a raft to make up the difference. If the latter is the case, then after you import your STL file, then click the "Move" button in XYZware and then click "Land"... that should make XYZware line up the bottom of your object with the top of the print table and you should then be able to carry on with printing without the diagonal lines of the raft appearing.

Raft control was checked, problem solved

With this printer, is printing a raft even really necessary? The one time I did it, it bonded to the bottom of the print and could not be removed.

A raft is only necessary when you're printing an object that makes little contact with the build plate, like a hollow column or something like that, where there's not much surface area of the printed object actually making contact with the build plate. And, "bonding to the bottom of the print" is a "feature"... so if you can avoid using a raft, you'll save yourself sanding and filing time.
