Hi everyone, solidoodle newbie my sd4 is not even a week old and has thrown the error m999 from day one was able to get about 4 different test prints done inbetween the error over the last few days but now its a continuous error and will not allow a print to start. Any suggestions as im about to just send it back ;(
That's bad wiring (short/open circuit). Inspect and/or replace the wiring. Consider upgrading to a better hotend.
not happy,lol, the machines not even a wk old and has not worked correctly from the start. i've inspected the wiring and everything appears connected correctly as well as no kinks that would create an issue.
Yup, very common failure. Solidoodle doesn't use properly rated wiring and doesn't strain relieve their cables.
well in that case back it goes. thank you for the help, unforunately not what i wanted to hear but greatly appreciated!
You can try
1) Set the hot end (extruding) temp. at 210C-215C, don't set it at 225C，
if the temp. Reached 230C, the M999 will be showed up.
2) Press the "reset" button, restart 3d printer.
3) Check wire connection.
+1 on upgrading the hotend.
But I agree 10,000% that you should not be having any issues at 1 week. Shipping can be hell on pretty much anything, so I can;t badmouth SD on this (although others could). Unfortunately, it would be cheaper and definitely faster to replace faulty wiring yourself depending on the true cause.
If you feel that you are wronged and unacceptable, contact SD ASAP. Just bare in mind they are at least one week behind on shipping new printers as promised. So it may take much longer for SD to fix it.

AOYOU3D makes a good point, I was assuming you were using a suitable temperature.
What temperature were you printing at? BTW to reset the error, you need to unplug/replug the machine, or disconnect/connect in Repetier-Host.
225 is what ive had it at for ABS, ive lowered it to 215 and was able to start a print without an error,we'll see. any recommendations on a good replacement hot end? you all are great and really appreciate the help!

225 is too hot on a Solidoodle, they read lower than most hotends. You were flying too close to the safety cutoff, I take back what I said about the wire failure (though that is a common, but easily fixed problem).
@elmorat, yes you're correct. So far no error issues since lowering temp to 215--220. I believe I need more calibrating now the print walls have gaps in between the filament layed for thickness
