Topic: adding colors to the filament?

Im sorry if this has been asked several times already and I failed to use the search tool properly or find a page with an article about this.

I have natural color ABS pellets I'd like to turn into filament when I get my Filastruder+Filawinder shipped.

What do I need to add to the pellets to get colored filament? Powder? Something else? What is it called, where can I get them and is there a page where I can learn from others experiences whats a good mix ratio of pellets and the colorants?

Thank you.

Re: adding colors to the filament?

You need Masterbatch

Have a look at the "Polymers" sticky at the top of the forum: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/4195/polymer-suppliers/

And the "Colorants" topic: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/2123/col … sterbatch/

Thanks.
Any ideas where to get them in Georgia? I dont know how its called in georgian or russian. If it has other uses maybe I could buy it locally in corresponding shop and not have to ship it every time.

Re: adding colors to the filament?

You need to track down local polymer suppliers.  If you can find a factory that makes plastic injection moulded items they might be able to point you to a supplier.

As you only use 1% of colour, it is not very expensive to ship, especially if you buy a number of basic colours.  This is the reason why I originally chose to include black, white, yellow, red, blue in a selection as you can make most colours by mixing these.

Most commercial suppliers want you to buy a minimum of 1kg or 5kg of each colour which would last you years (unless you are VERY prolific at making filament.
