Topic: What difference a month makes - had Amazon replace my 1.0
So my extruder continued to make an unhappy sound when retracting the filament, regardless of adjustment in speed or distance and the sound seems to be coming from the actual stepper. With only a few days of Amazon return window remaining, I requested a replacement since that extends your return window by 30 days automatically.
Turns out, I qualify for instant replacement thru Amazon (likely due to the fact that I use the account for my work and spend a few grands a month) and they overnighted me a new 1.0. Currently I have both units setup side by side and noticed some interesting things:
- Print head was tied down with a red zip tie, instead of tape. There still was plenty of tape tho.
- The new unit has blue 638 glue all over the place. Like every rod and thread and screw. Except the right bed bearings - I am starting to wonder if those are supposed to be loose.
- The filament release leaver is larger on the new unit and there seem to be a few minor changes to the metal parts
- The print bed glass is thicker
- Some of the wiring harness looks a bit thicker, but that could just be a different supplier
- I haven't had time to measure this yet, but the white pulleys appear wider
and most importantly
- The new unit is about half the volume when printing. I was quite surprised by this - overall it seems to move just... smoother a bit. It is very well lubricated from the factory.
Quite honestly, I am pretty glad I got the replacement, since the unit feels even more solid than my first 1.0. Also, currently I can print at double speed (until the filament jams in the old one).
