Topic: First PLA Print
So I have this spool of yellow PLA and I've been running low on ABS, so I figured I give it a try. My Da Vinci is running the G firmware at this point and has an external SD card but other than belt tightening and lubrication nothing was changed on the actual printing part. Temperatures were controlled via the cartridge chips, using an arduino uno for programming. A star vase sample was printed using ABS at 230C for reference, ABS was then unloaded still at 230C.
For the initial loading I chose a temperature of 200C as this was within the range of both PLA and ABS. Loading was completely problem free and I ran the extruder about 5 or 6 loading cycles to assure all ABS was gone. After successful loading I lowered the temperature to 185C and the heated bed to 50C, cleaned the printer bed and started the star vase demo. For ideal air flow (and since my spool holder doesn't let me open the top door), one side panel was removed and a small fan was pointed towards the inside of the printer. The print completed without a hitch, the vase looks actually better than the ABS version except that I had a hard time getting the vase of the print bed. I assume UHU stick is not recommended for PLA?
Here are the results, blue is ABS and yellow is PLA.
