Hi folks,
Anyone used any ABS pellets from Chi Mei? If so, what types have you used? What temperatures did you use for extruding?
I have purchased Chi Mei Polylac PA-756H. I have only tested at 180C. It extrudes thin. Still tweaking there.
The 3d print quality is not great yet. It is quite stringy when moving, which I haven't seen with commercially supplied filament on my reprap.
Curious as to other folk's results.
PA-747 is popular, as confirmed by a search here. Haven't heard of 756H. What's keeping you from sticking with a tried and true resin?
I thought I would try experimenting with different kinds of abs.
In that case, experiment away!
PA-747 stands for "P" iece of "A" trash 747 times over.
Where do you buy that Chi Mei stuff, i want to try if they sell pellets.

I extrude PA 747 every day. I make a ton of black because thats almost all I use in my shop. Never has an issue and it prints great.
PA-747 is the most popular ABS for 3d printing filament. Makerbot and plenty of others use it.
It is far more likely that you are doing something incorrectly than it is that PA-747 is "trash".
Also Chi Mei is who makes PA-747, so really your whole post doesn't make much sense.
I had PA747 twice.
One i bought and one extruded.
I dont know why but it does not like to stick to its self when printing so i quit using it.
Its a bit smelly but layer bonds are good, tough resin.
I've had some success with PA-756H, but there are a few points I would like to mention.
1. I extruded at 180C, and have printed at 230, 232, 234, 236 C. It seems to do best being printed at 230-232. 236 was quite brittle and my prints broke easily.
2. The texture in filament form is a bit rough. It's not smooth like PA-747. This seems to be appearance only.
3. I'm not using any colorant. There are places on the print where yellowing occurs. This seems to be related to higher extruder temperatures.
4. There is a lot more "stringyness" with this polymer than with PA-747.

Print temperature should be something that no one should mention.
This is simply because every single nozzle is different and returns different temp reading based on the nozzle tip or termistor or termistor position etc.
I have E3D nozzle and changed the tip i bought from Ebay. I had to increase the temp by 10degrees to match up to what it was before.
Dont ask why, but for some reasons i needed to.
I printed PLA at 220 but with new nozzle i needed to go 230. ABS i print at 240-250 but those temperatures are nozzle specific so its kinda pointless to post them.
you also have different temp's if you have a fan on that blows on the nozzle, same thing with the filastruder.
The thing is PA-747 is a good plastic, the pellets just smell and seems to have a lower mfi than say mg94, but that has crasy flow. i'm sure it would be useful for 1.75mm or slower speeds/higher temps, didn't work that great for me printing .5 layers with 3mm filament. even high speed .2-.3 with a .4 nozzle it didn't come out that great, noticed lots of warping/layer separation with smaller layers, i'm sure with work and a better enclosure i could have got it to print great, just wasn't what i was looking for.
(i'll try it again with 1.75mm filament on the delta and will prob love it)
We dropped MG94 for PA747 because the filament is stronger and not as glossy as MG94.
PA747 gives a matte appearance so the build layers are less visible ,looking more 'Pro", so to speak...
It helps hide the fact that it is 3D Printed.
MG94 gives Nice Shiny visible rings... so you can clearly see the layers..and know it's 3D Printed - we don't want that unless using for gears or parts that need to be smooth
We researched Polylac PA-756H before, it is a super high flow ABS, higher than MG94, but i think it affects the strength and quality because of the chemical makeup is drastically different and part of the plastic evaporates into gas causing bubbles and weak filament sometimes at our usual extrusion and printing temps. It requires cooler extrusion temps to be stable on our filastruder (not sure if others have this problem), but that means it hardens faster so any kinks become permanent faster.
