Topic: Help: Recycling material for a Stratasys 3d Printer

Hi i want to know if anyone try to recycle this materials: PC(polycarbonate), PPSF((polyphenylsulfone), Ultem 9085, they are material of the Fortus 400mc 3d printer.

No experience with PPSF or Ultem - those are nice materials! Are you looking to recycle unused filament, or prints? If the latter, you will need a shredder.

To get to temperatures over 230C, which you'll need for those materials, you will need to provide an 18v power supply for the heater. It is rated at 18v, but I supply 12v in order to keep temperatures in a safe range for ABS/PLA if a user dials in the wrong temperature. Thus, providing a 18v power supply is a way of keeping things safe, but allowing advanced users to experiment with other materials.

if im trying to recycle prints, is there anyone you can recomend to me.
i will try with the 18v power supply, and post my results of the recycling

The only real shredders I know of are Marcus Thymark's:

They are quite expensive ($500+), though that is probably pocket change to a Fortus user.

I have to ask - are the filament cartridges chipped? Won't you have problems getting the Stratasys machine to accept the filament you produce?

thanks for the info of the shredder.

Well right know we are buying the filament cartidges from stratasys, but we are starting a plan to help the enviorenment trying to recycle the prototypes because we have a lot of 3d printed things. im not sure if the stratasys will accept the recycled filament, but i will try with ABS pellets first.

The cartridges are chipped and keep track of use, so if you refill one and plug it back in, the printer will still consider it empty.  You can get around it, though the process is a bit complicated.  It seems it would be worth the trouble if it means not paying $250+ for a roll of filament.
