Topic: Hopper 2LB size

Can someone design a hopper that would hold 2LB of filament in its volume and upload STL ?
Am not sure how to get one going but i know there need to be atleast 2 versions of it. One horizontal and one vertical.

ABS pellets are one size and PLA another, so calculating their volume and weight, as well as resulting length based on the diameter is not my thing to do.

Can someone help me with that ?

Re: Hopper 2LB size

Just use the hoppers that allow you to screw a bottle into them.  A 2L bottle (to the top of the label) holds exactly 1kg.  It's about 1.5kg full to the very top.

2L bottle will give me 1 kilo of filament ?

Yeah, I use Diet Dr. Pepper bottles.  If you fill to the top of the label  (so the "funnel" shape is empty) you have exactly 1kg on the dot.  It's uncanny and easy to measure.

ABS or PLA? They have different densities.

Sorry, ABS (MG94).

How about PLA ?

This will hold 1Kg of PLA pellets.

Looks like a good design, but a lot of printing.  It's pretty hard to beat a 2L bottle!

yeah sad

Re: Hopper 2LB size

I had issues with how poorly MG94 tends to feed with the humidity that is a given in the summer where I live at with the filabottle, so I designed one that had the features I wanted in 123D Design (free from Autodesk). I needed the "funnel" that I built to use the entire feedscrew opening instead of the smaller hole that the bottles have.

You could easily design a hopper that suited you with more than enough capacity for both material types, then just put a mark on the inside of the hopper with a magic marker so you'd know how high to fill it. It might take you a few hours to get a design that does everything you need it to do, but if you don't like the ones already designed creating your own is at least a "free" option.

This is the one that I did, with its small space winder setup.
