Topic: $10 Filament on Amazon

So I thought I'd share this - go to Amazon and search for "Magic Cube ABS 1.75". Sort by price and you'll find plenty of color choices for $10 and $14 bucks and even Prime eligible. Not quite sure why those are so cheap, but I just ordered a spool of dark blue and got another $2 off, bringing my total for a spool of dark blue ABS to $7.99.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

It's cheaper because it's less than a half of a spool. It's 1 pound, which is 0.45 KG.

The price however, even for only 1lb is still pretty good.
The biggest question is the quality of the Filament. Is it good quality?

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

I ordered a 1kg spool of black for $19.99, free shipping, and chose no rush shipping for the $1 movie/music credit. I'll see how it performs when I get it.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

I would use caution with this seller as well as the product for this reason.
Many of the reviewers gave multiple reviews of the same seller around the same date. One gave a copy-paste review on two "G-Star" reviews.

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Nice Catch!
BTW, it is completely illegal to rate a product if you are at all affiliated with the company selling it, without first identifying yourself as an affiliate / employee within the rating text...

Wow, I totally missed that. I do work in a marijuana lab, maybe should wear gloves more often...

I have used many brands, and gstar is actually one of the least disappointing. Lol I have actually ordered spools on 2 or 3 occasions, and the quality is decent for the price.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

ratings/reviews been like that since Ebay. gotta read tween lines and check dates for newest if improved. Makerbot sells 1/4 rolls for same price as some full rolls which actually makes it much costlier. found this at Micro-Center. also some web sales sell  one size then substitute dif ask some members here how many rolls they have of 1.75mm thats really 3mm etc. til ya have it in your printer using it fine dont brag on it.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

So I got my filament yesterday and did a test print. The stuff looks pretty terrible but did came packed sealed and with desiccant. Prints seem pretty decent and I have to say I love the dark blue color. Not sure I'd order it again, but it seems to be no worse than what came with the Da Vinci.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

Not sure if it is because I have amazon prime but I ordered a few rolls of this filament today and at checkout, each roll was discounted by $2... so for $7.99 a roll I decided to try 7 of the colors. I don't have anything to compare it to other than the XYZ cartridge that came with my printer but will give an opinion once I receive it and test it out.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

Saw some $7-10 dollar filament on Amazon. I skipped it, because it's way too cheap and I've wasted too many hours and prints with low quality filament. I would suspect the absurdly cheap stuff uses low quality non-virgin plastic input.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

Just got my new 1 kilo roll of "G-Star 1.75mm Yellow ABS 3D Printer Filament" for $17 from Amazon and the stuff looks amazing! Packaging was excellent (box+vacuum sealed+desiccant) and the first test print went great - notable better quality than the included filament or the cheap $8 filament I bought a few days ago.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

I received all of my items today, 8 rolls of Magic Cube ($8/lb) and 1 roll of G-Star ($18/kg). The G-star and 2 of the Magic cubes were vacuum sealed. All were in individual bags with desiccant. I plan to post full reviews in the filament thread but was wondering if anyone could suggest a good sample print. Preferably one that varies temp along the Z axis so that I can also tune in the best temp for each color. Otherwise, I will probably print a portion of the Star Vase sample so that I can compare to the stock ABS. I also have just started using a roll of Sainsmart that I will include in the comparison.

The dark blue magic cube seems to do ok at 210C, but does better at 220 or 230. The yellow G-Star wouldn't adhere to itself at 210, but works great at 230C. Did your dark blue look kinda beat up? Is that normal for dark colors? Because the prints looked ok and the color is great.

Re: $10 Filament on Amazon

I don't have a lot (none) experience since I have only tried G-Star, Magic Cube, Sainsmart and the stock filament. The magic cube does seem to have white bands similar to bend marks every 4-8 inches and it is definitely more noticeable in the darker colors but so far I am having better prints from it than I did from the XYZ stuff. I don't know if it from tweaking the settings in Slic3r or just from more experience with Slic3r but the print quality form both Magic Cube and G-Star are far better than the XYZ white. I haven't purchased any "premium" filament yet since I am still getting acquainted with 3d printing but so far I am impressed with the cheap filament. Perhaps ignorance is truly bliss.
