Re: How long to get filament

Don't believe what the websites says "Usually Ships in 1-2 business days..." this is a BOLD FACE LIE! They claim there has been a flood of filament orders, but yet they still claim on the website ships in 1-2 days. Lies Lies and more Lies! I placed an order from Solidoodle for 3 rolls of filament over 3 weeks ago and it still has not shipped.  I don’t know why this company continues to mis-leads it’s customers. Why can't they just be honest. If they would have told me after I placed my order or on the website that I would take 3-4 weeks I would have been ok with that. But to lie to me is no way to treat a customer!

Re: How long to get filament

http://store.makerbot.com/ shipped same day for me.

http://www.buy3dink.com/ shipped next day, but the selection is very limited.

Heck at this point ordering from China would have been faster!

Was that order with a printer?   From what I've read they tend to ship an order once complete.

We are a little behind on filament orders. This is due to our flooded shipping department. We have tons of filament, it is just going out slowly. We're working on this as we speak.

Sorry for the inconvenience so far. It is being resolved.

Re: How long to get filament

If Solidoole would just be honest with the shipping times on machines and filament they would make a lot more sales than people reading here about all the delays and how pissed people are getting on waiting then going some place else.

Customer support makes or BREAKS a company plain and simple!

The only thing keeping them in the game now is the price, once they lose that it's all over. If another company comes along and matches or beats the price and treats its customer with GREAT service then Solidoole will be in for a hurt.

I wouldn't near as pissed about the 3 week, so to be 4 week delay, if they had said so on the website or had the common curtsies to send me an e-mail on the matter.  I have my own business and if I treated my customer like Solidoole did, I wouldn’t last very long. You don’t leave customers in the dark. If your going to be late in shipping. Tell them. Don’t let them guess what is going on or if their order got lost or something.

We have been sending shipping updates on a semi-weekly basis for the last two months. We ship parts, printers and filament 7 days a week. Growth is hard, and with the sudden and volcanic demand it can be *very* hard to forecast stock. Many companies go out of business trying to buy everything at once, and we think it is in the best interest of everyone to do the best we can.

Honestly, many companies in our industry operate on similar models. For instance, just last week I bought Rasberry Pi from Newark.com. Newark has yet to give me any real information on when my order might ship. I know from my own research that there has been a run on Rasberry Pi's and it might be some time - maybe months - before I receive my order. Newark gave me zero information that zero indication that the board might be out of stock. The other U.S supplier - adafruit industries notifies you that the item is not in stock, but gives zero indication of when it might be in stock [Edit they gave an update that it would be 5 days - hooray]. This is a not a failure of any of the companies so much as consequence of immense demand. Just like the Solidoodle itself, these tiny boards are being churned out as fast as humanly possible. Because I know that this is a hot technical product from a very young industry, I take their shipping estimates with a major grain of salt.  I don't mind waiting. I have gone through this process for items as simple as an arduino board - it is not at all uncommon.

We give the best estimates we can on a daily basis. All of the backlog of filament could be eliminated in a day or two given the right circumstances, and so shipping is not as black and white as you might suppose. We understand the frustration with shipping times and we are doing the best we can - remember, dissatisfaction with shipping times hurts our company. This is a top priority for us - we are just trying to eliminate the problem without shooting ourselves in the feet.

It is difficult to explain shipping problems in full without divulging confidential information, but please understand that the situation is just as frustrating for us as it is for you. We are trying to find the right mix of labor, parts, and expertise that will make a great printer for a great price, while maintaining the viability of our company.

Re: How long to get filament

You can get a variety of filaments from amazon, and you can get them next day in most cases.

Re: How long to get filament

I have to give it to Solidoodle. The sent me a personal email stating my filament would ship Friday. But due to problem in shipping department it didn't. So they took a step toward great customer service and actually called me stating the problem and that it would ship Monday. I was very surprised and impressed at this call. That is what I was talking about. Let your customers know what is going on and they will appreciate it and spread the news.

So thank you Solidoodle for the update on my order. It was very nice to have that personal touch with the problem with my order. I feel that I am being taken care of and not just left to wonder what is going on.

Re: How long to get filament

I was on a time constraint because I actually intended to use Solidoodle Gen 2 Pro for creating some custom parts in January (MY fault for not doing research on delivery times, etc.).  Solidoodle answered my second email with the information I needed.  Fortunately, I am able to push my client's delivery date back about three weeks.  This should eliminate any issues.  The company IS a start-up, and are really working hard to make their mark. It's frustrating for everyone, but as a business owner, I understand the growing pains they are going through.  Keep up the hard work!  It's gonna pay off in the long run...

My SD arrived before my Raspberry Pi (still don't have it), and I ordered my Pi before the SD.

Re: How long to get filament

There's a big differance between a Pi (or printer for that matter) and filament: those have many components, many suppliers, many hours of assembly time, etc. Filament, you get from a singular supplier, and I can only assume that solidoodle gets it on the spool. Solidoodle's end should only be the repackaging and adding of the shipping information. I cannot fathom how it can take weeks to repackage and ship a roll of filament. Now if they are making it in house, then I can see it taking longer. Then it just becomes a problem of poor forecasting. Either way though, as a budding small business myself, I can no longer look to solidoodle for filament, because I have no way of knowing when I'll get the items I need. Amazon has become my go-to for filament, because I know that when I order from them, I will have it in my hands within a week, and I have the option to overnight it in case of emergencies.
