Topic: Finer layer height than .1 mm?
Out of curiosity, has anyone running repetier printed at a lower later height than .1 mm? How did it go?

I am printing a Yoda right now at a 0.06mm Layer Height using stock firmware, however, with using slic3r.
I'll post a photo of it when it's done if i remember to lol
Haha good luck! Get rid of those layer lines!

I'd be interested in hearing how that ends up. DaVinci's layer height is controlled by the screw drive so it should be a lot "finer" than the steppers on the carriage. I'd be curious just how "short" you could cut the layers before it couldn't drop the feed on the filament that low and still keep a smooth flow.
Here's some pictures of the Yoda I printed using 0.06mm layer height.
Keep in mind, this is the first time I've done a print at this low of a layer height, so the settings aren't quite dialed in yet.
Pictures are attached.
As a general principle, from an SD2 user, below .1mm you seem to start having some issues possibly related to the ratio of your line-width to height. To spread out, say, a .5mm line out of .4mm nozzle with 0.05mm layer height, does not give a lot of room for it to spread out.
That said I've done prints at 0.05mm, I just disable Z-lift, and tend to only do one print at a time. Not usually worth it.
I'm trying the print again using a 0.06mm layer height, 0.5mm width, 3 parameters, I guess I'll see how it goes when I get home later today.
If it is worse than the prior print, I'll try again using a smaller width. What would you recommend setting the width at? Any other suggestions that may help?

is that holes in black? did it print hollow? looks like a few ooze outs etc but not bad 1st try. thought it would ooze more out of layers.. wonder how a better Z screw would do for finer steps? I have measured 1st layer/brim b4 at that thickness with normal print
It is holes that didn't fill in properly. The infill was set too low for that print, and I also think the width was set too low, causing the filament not to stick properly. I am trying it now with 0.5mm width, and a slightly faster speed. The hole in the back is now gone, and it's about half way done now, and it looks better already! I'll take pics when the print is done. So far, I'd say it's pretty good at printing at 0.06mm layer height (with the right setting that is).
what printer are you using? I own an SD2 deluxe kit with 2nd to last board they used on the model.

Okay, well the new Yoda came out better/worse (depending on the area).
The holes are now gone, however, the overall quality of his facial features are not as good.
I'm gonna keep messing with the settings, and I'll update ya'll if I find anything special.
Dr. Bogger, can you share your setting file on here, either in text or attach the file so that I can open it in Slic3R?
I want to try to print, using my 2.0 in .4mm and .1mm layer hieghts. Got the 2.0 yesterday, working amazing with standard modes, but I want to push this baby for these .4mm wall files I have.
