Topic: Is faster speed better?

I've been trying to print the duck call off of thingiverse. While trying to print the middle part that the reed goes into I have thing problem of the abs staying constantly soft, basically making the print lopsided and sometimes leaving a burn spot. Its a small circle about 3/4in. across. My print speed is set to 30 m/s. I was thinking maybe its caused by the extruder sitting in one place too long and not allowing the abs to cool. If I speed it up maybe it would help? I'm using slic3r with the xyz

Re: Is faster speed better?

Due to the hotend design being the size of a quarter and almost flat, it will heat a part of a print it hovers over for too long far more than you would want.

That said, there are ways around this issue. The easiest is to print a second object at the same time that is high enough to force the hotend off the part your having issues with and that gives you enough cooling per layer. Other slicers give you more options including setting the amount of seconds minimum that a layer can print, if that's available in the one you use give it a try. Speeding up the print will help as well, but has the downside of a less accurate print. Same goes for using thicker layers.
