Topic: Slight dilemma

Alright so this one print I have been workin on for a while is lifting off on one corner. Some of the middle layers are also not bonding well and are lifting as well. I know lifting has to do from contraction as the filament cools. I also know layers don't bond well with low heat. So as a suggestion, should I use more heat or less

Re: Slight dilemma

This will sound like a poor answer but...

The corner pulling off from the bed "might" be able to be fixed by a combination of bed leveling, using slurry, and a wide brim to get the print solidly stuck to the bed so it simply can't pull off.  The other layer bond issue can be fixed by a hotter head, but shouldn't be necessary.

I will say this much from having tried other filaments, XYZ's is decent for not warping but it's layer adhesion is not very good. What I'm using at the moment is not very good on the warp aspect, but even at 195C the layers are stuck together better than  I ever saw with stock filament. So if the print is very difficult, you might want to try some other filament and see if that works for you.

Re: Slight dilemma

Are you using glue stick on the bed?

"UHU stic" and "Purple Elmo's" both work very well for getting ABS to stick to a glass bed. I think the Purple Elmo's goes on a bit smoother, but they're both good. I've found it goes on better if you apply the glue stick when the bed is cold. There are likely other flavors of glue stick that will work, but of those I've tried, I know those ones will do the job. One word of caution, though, is glue sticks are NOT all the same. Some work great and some don't work at all.

For the ones that do work, the print just plain won't come loose until the bed temp drops below 50C. If your bed is level and is holding a temp around 100C to 115C for ABS, I'd suggest putting down a layer of glue stick to see if that cures the problem.

Re: Slight dilemma

I had an issue where I had a print curl up at the corners. I tried the rotating the print 90 degrees and that was even worse.

I did the bed levelling and that sorted the prints curling.

So I would suggest you try a bed level - yes its frustrating but it may help smile

Re: Slight dilemma

Sorry I wasn't too specific, I am running repetier and using gstar abs. Everyone seems to be absolutely certain it is the bed leveling. I have followed the instructions on bed leveling without the guided numbers system that xyzware comes with. Does anyone have any suggestions other than the (apparently no so optimal) paper leveling technique?

Re: Slight dilemma

Is it possible you're trying to print ABS on a PLA setting? If so, the bed temp isn't hot enough to get ABS to stick.

Re: Slight dilemma

Try wiping down the bed and nozzle with Acetone. Sometimes ABS can leave a greasey film on the bed and/or nozzle, and can inhibit the filament from sticking to the bed.

Re: Slight dilemma

Dr. Bogger, I believe the issue is from my other post about the 4 corners. My bed adhesion is typically flawless, but the corner that dips slightly lower than the others normally lifts about 50-100 layers in. I need to find a solution to that and I believe that would solve the issues on this post.

Re: Slight dilemma

Try doing a normal calibration, then after the calibration completes successfully, adjust the bed slightly, and do NOT re-do the calibration after you do this. Sometime's I'll even adjust it during a print, to get a more visual of the bed leveling.

Re: Slight dilemma

If there is one complaint about this printer, it's the calibration process. It just plain and simply sucks. Just find your own method of calibrating it, and stick to it.

I have already contacted XYZ Support with a solution to this problem, but they don't seem to care much about it.
