Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
Check the belt tension, if it's too loose it might jump off the teeth a little

i tightened the belts and that help a bit, but it is still offset, but not as much. anything it could be? thanks
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
Does that happen in all of your prints? And does it happen at the same layer every time?
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset

on smaller prints it doesn't happen, it would seem.
also the bigger the print, it seems to happen later on during the print, so not on the same layer every time, but i could be wrong.
again thanks for the help.
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
It almost looks like the offset only happens once.. And the print continues as normal.. There can only really be an issue in hardware or software.. My only suggestions for hardware would be to check belt tensions.. And for software, try to reflash whatever firmware you are running and try it again

ok thanks i will check the belt tension again and reflash the firmware.
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
Let me know how it works
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
I have found that complex models ONLY do this when using XYZ Ware. If I slice them using Slicer and then import the Gcode into XyZ Ware it dosnt happen.
So I think its a slicer problem in XYZ Ware itself not a HW issue with the printer.
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
thanks guys i think ikilby is right. i printed this SNES controller, just the top part and it printed fine, in which it is bigger and wider than the wrench i printed the other day. i guess repetier might be in my new future. ![]()
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
Hi All,
I'm fairly new to 3D printing. I received my Da Vinci last weekend and have been loving it so far, but I've been noticing this same issue. My latest guess is that the problem is related to the print bed itself. I'm not sure if the rest of you are seeing this but on mine I've noticed that (when cool) if I grab the print bed and the platform beneath, like with my thumbs on top of the print bed, that I'm able to actually slide the glass bed on top of the plastic bed assembly. It moves in each direction, x and y, just about a mm or so.
I was watching a longer print job the other day that was giving me trouble because there was a portion of the print that was cooling and curling up. So the print head kept bumping into it. The part being printed was very well adhered to the print bed and I noticed that sometimes when the head hit the part the bed would shift ever so slightly. It's such a slight amount of motion that it moves, but when we're dealing with layer heights of 0.1mm any shift will end up being noticeable in the final print.
I've tried tightening down the screws at all four points atop the print bed, but with limited success so far. The plate can still shift slightly. Has anyone else experienced this? I've been considering using blue painters tape over the bed to then wrap it around the chassis on the side to try and keep the plate fixed in place, but have been consider other options as well. One other possibility might be to try and have some sort of shim in between the glass bed and the plastic housing on either axis just to pin it so it can't move. Not sure which will be the best way to go yet. Would be interested if anyone else has noticed this and has tried anything.
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
The problem is the result of a software/firmware bug. Until XYZ provides a patch, you can count on ruined prints as a result of the defective programs XYZ uses. It's a problem that has been discovered and fixed in open source programs, but XYZ hasn't bothered to fix their version.
If you bought the printer from a retailer that accepts returns, the only solution available is to send the defective machine back for a refund.

If your glass moves that easily, you will have to fix that issue. I'd think (but have never tested) that a small dab of automotive silicon gasket adhesive high temp type under the metal tabs that are screwed into the plastic base would stop the glass from moving. It would still be possible to cut through that with a razor blade if you ever needed to remove it.
The thing is that even when your head isn't hitting your print, just the viscosity of the semi molten abs plastic itself puts considerable amounts of pull on a print. If you've ever watched a print get yanked off the glass and follow the head around even though it's halfway printed, you'll know what I mean. Glass that does move as little as 1mm, will give you bad vertical walls on your prints.

I just got my Da Vinci a few days ago and I found I was having the same vertical shifting problem with my first test prints. After this I too noticed that my glass plate was loose and slipping around by a few mm. So for a quick test fix I put some folded paper in the gap to stop the glass from moving and it completely fixed the vertical shift I was getting in my prints. Now that I know the cause I will be applying a more permanent solution.
Re: prints are printing shifting/offset
Something you might want to look at is whether your filament is binding in the cartridge or not. I consistently getting shifting problems inconsistently! I just happened to notice that the filament seemed very taught, and when i tugged it, it had clearly gotten itself stuck. The solution was to snap open the filament cartridge and look for the binding problem (the solution was the silica gel pack had gotten in the way).
Not saying this is your problem, but if you encounter the problem again you might want to check filament tension.
