Topic: Bought a press :))

Hello everyone. I just wanted to say that I've bought a press, and I'm very happy about it. I've been looking around for a nice printer for a while now, and I was like a day away from getting the Robo 3d until I stumbled upon solidoodle's new line of printers. I was looking at the solidoodle 3 before, and I want something just a little more plug and play. Not necessarily something I have to spend hours a day calibrating, etc. I understand that I'll probably have to at least do a little to the press when I get it, but I'm pretty confident that it'll be much better. It has a slightly smaller print volume as the robo3d, but it's half the price. I got some filament, and I can't wait to get it.

Yeah I am pretty positive there are going to be needed adjustments for the picky among us.  But Im pretty positive it will print, and probably stick a lot more successfully than other models given the bed level compensation.

Re: Bought a press :))

Those people that don't live in the us can't use spool inside if not want buy from solidoodle  then we need make our own spool on the backside not included.

I think you are worrying about something that is just not a real problem.  Buy your filament from whom ever you want and feed it in through the top of the machine.  New filament comes on it's own spool and can hang on anything you want (1" PVC pipe works fine) behind or above the printer.  You could even design and print your own spool holder.

Yeah, but that sort of negates the whole beauty of the all in one case... I mean I get what your saying.  But the purist in me would like to feed my filament via the top enclosure.

Re: Bought a press :))

Then just come up with a quick way to transfer filament to the correct size roll or cartridge that will fit inside.

Ha:) Meanwhile over on another thread....

My solution I am leaning towards as of now will to be to have a few filament spools of the right size and simply transfer my filament onto the correctly sized rolls as needed.

EG buy something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Empty-3D-Printe … 5aff0b2795 (not sure it's right size yet)

Then print up a chuck adapter that would allow you to spin a spool the the power drill to quickly transfer filament from incorrectly sized rolls to the properly sized rolls.  Procedure would just take a few minutes at most.

I ended up ordering a Press too.  It was just too hard to pass up an enclosed printer with a heated glass bed and 8"x8" build platform for under $400 bucks.  Time will tell if it has what it takes or not but it seems a lot less risky than the 3D printer builds you see on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.  Many of us already have older Solidoodles and have some idea of what to expect.

Although, I am more than a little concerned about the filament cartridge/spool/whatever-it-uses....

Re: Bought a press :))

I just found out my wife bought me a press back on 8/5/2014 for our anniversary yesterday smile

Then I found out my son got one too (but couldn't tell me because my wife wanted him to keep it a secret).

Given all the printers my family is buying (we already had two), I'm expecting for Sam to hand deliver it tongue

Im so with you! I'd love to see it print more and see a few other things. I really hope the board allows for an lcd screen too. Crossing my fingers on that one.
