Topic: Filament Snagging / Cartridge Error?

I've had my davinci 1.0 for about 2 weeks, I have about 18hrs of prints done, and have been pretty happy with them...
Last night I was about halfway through a 3hr print and i heard a loud knocking noise...when i got to the printer I saw the extruder going all wonky so I cancelled the job as quickly as possible..

Today, I decided to print a smaller job that I have successfully printed previously and about halfway through it i heard the same knocking noise, I sat watching to see where the noise was coming from and it appears to be coming from inside the cartridge as the printer is having trouble pulling the filament from the cartridge.
I swapped cartridges to a brand new out of the box cartridge, restarted the job, same issue keeps occurring and this time even ruined the job with a generic "cartridge error" on the display screen forcing me to cancel...

Any suggestions?

Ummmm if it's xyzware filament , make sure the rubber plug is pulled from the cartridge? Or maybe the extruder is clogged

Re: Filament Snagging / Cartridge Error?

The original "half load" cartridge I got with my DV caused the machine to stop due to "Filament error".  Basically the filament in the cartridge had some kind of swelling on it at one point and it got jammed trying to exit the cartridge. I had to crack the cartridge open and cut the filament free, then reroute it through the cartridge again.

Quality control issues, we shouldn't be too shocked by these things smile

Re: Filament Snagging / Cartridge Error?

Is there any recovery from filament/cartridge error
except to restart job.

About 5 min into a number of prints
----  filament/cartridge error -----
with no apearent reason.

Lots of "No cartridge"   to

Whats wrong here?
or
Just a feature?

Tnx

Wow....I feel like an idiot...I did not remove the rubber plug when I swapped cartridges...
I pulled the plug, but had trouble even manually trying to pull out the filament, pulled the carridge apart and found the filament had come off the spool and was all bound up (probably as a result of not pulling the rubber plug)

I rewound up the filament, snapped the cartridge back together, and proceeded to print an 11hr Superman bust with no issue...

Thanks to heidkampn1 so much for pointing out the obvious to a noob like me...

The circuit board at the bottom of the cartridge needs to make very good contact. You also need to put the white hold-down back on top of the cartridge to make sure it can't move and lose contact.

Sadly it's not a "feature" but a flaw of how the cartridge setup works.
