Topic: Today's The Day

Today my refurbished SD2P finally arrives, and I'm beyond excited. I have test stl's ready to print, I've brushed up on my part functions and simple gcode, but the only thing I have left is a calibration list. I think I'll start out with a little bed calibration, followed by some flow calibration, maybe some z-stop love, topped with a little belt check/tensioning if needed?

What would you guys suggest I do prior to my first run?

Re: Today's The Day

Neither!

She printed a tight 20mm³ pretty damn well for zero-calibration. But when they labeled it refurbished, they meant it unfortunately.

Re: Today's The Day

Ok so the first things I suggest printing are the Lawsy carriages and a grove mount replacement for the extruder.
Seriously, you'll more than likely need them soon and as Murphy's Law dictates you'll probably need them at the same time that the printer has started killing it's original parts thus making it impossible to print said replacement parts.

Re: Today's The Day

Just reading up on that last night matter of fact! Didn't know if I wanted to get new rods too...

Yeah, the Popsicle-stick and glue carriage system on this refurb needs an overhaul for sure.

What's the grove mount?

Re: Today's The Day

The grove mounting system is what a lot of the common hotends use(E3D, hexagonal, stock etc etc).
Lawsy designed this to replace the crappy acrylic system that comes stock on everything but the Soli 4.
This is what I'm talking about: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:111213
There's also a version that can take then newer E3D variant floating around somewhere.

Re: Today's The Day

Here is wardjr's E3D v6 accepting MK5 body (originally designed by Lawsy).
Keep in mind the v6 and v5 E3D hotends have different sizes. And this stl is just the body. You will still need to print the filament guide and the locking arm. Tension arm is recommended, but it is possible to use the acrylic arm that will eventually break.

No locking arm needed.  Hey AZERATE... Could you throw that on Thingiverse for me?   I'm in no position to do it for a couple of weeks.

Re: Today's The Day

Not to bash solidoodle, it is what it is: Physically dirty (dirty grease, fingerprints, dust, case residue, minor plastic debry from previous owner), cracked and worn belts (most notibly the Y's), poor prints on the Y carriage (that might just be normal, I don't know), previous owner writing and sticker (annoying but it is what it is), minor scratches on the acrylic door, and some missing case screws (I think I'm missing two screws total - One for the filiment mount and one for the outer case).

Other than that, good kapton, no noticeable grinding or noise, nozzle looks good, exercises all axis very well, wires all in place (no wobble), well greased rods (rather have very dirty grease than no grease), and good prints right off the bat.

I recommend printing several of each part. I have 3 sets of carriages printed in the event my upgrade process went array, or had issues shortly thereafter. It never hurts to have replacement parts.
And enjoy! Upgrading the carriages was the most fun and fulfilling for me so far.

Ugh... This stuff is amazing guys! Why didn't you force me into this earlier?

What were your settings on the prints by the way?

First fing you should do is to make sure you got everything in place and test to print a easy part before doing your big project, and make sure u get enough filament wink

Wardjr, can you share the .skp file for that mount?  I'm looking forward to testing it as soon as my E3D gets here.  I want to add a half circle wire holder on the side like another user did to the original Mk5.  Thanks.
