Topic: E3D with Lawsy Mk5 Jigsaw - Tilted

Quick question.  I'm in the middle of upgrading my stock SD3 jigsaw and hotend to a E3D v5 and Lawsy's MK5 jigsaw.  Basically, if I put the E3D in all the way, the heat sink vanes hit the carriage, and tilt it forward.  So, can I just use a couple of washers to move the jigsaw out from the carriage a bit to make room for the E3D, or am I doing something fundamentally wrong and it should fit just fine?

I had this problem. I wrapped a dime in kapton (afraid of transferring heat) and wedged it under the nema accordingly. However, if you have this issue, and don't wedge it, you may bore out the carriage holes (where the 4-40 bolts travel). This caused rather significant quality issues for me. Consider upgrading to Lawsy's carriages once you get the E3D on....I am learning the stock carriages are garbage at this point.

Ugh.. will do.

Alright, got it all installed, firmware updated and wired up. Now a tremendously newbie question.. (As If all of my others aren't!)

So, now the downside. I've discovered that I ordered the Bowden style.  Can I just put a piece of the supplied PTFE in the top of the hotend to help with feeding?  As it is, it's got a monster sized chamber and filament will just get buggered up in there.

I haven't done it this way may self but I really don't see any problem with it.

Re: E3D with Lawsy Mk5 Jigsaw - Tilted

I'm a bit confused here...you're switching to bowden feed which would move the nema elsewhere.
So why are you having problems with the carriage? It sounds like you are trying to install a bowden via direct feed method, which would give you your originally posted issue.

That's not what he's saying...  He is saying that He ordered the Bowden E3D and wants to use it as a direct feed.  The only difference between the two is the Bowden E3D has threads in the top so the inlet is a much larger hole than the direct feed.
So all he wants to do is put some PTFE tubing in the top of the E3D to make the inlet hole the correct size so the filament isn't sloppy as it enters.  As an added bonus that tubing could travel up close to the drive gear to add more support for flexible filaments.

Yeah, what wardjr said. I just ordered the wrong one.

Re: E3D with Lawsy Mk5 Jigsaw - Tilted

So, now when printing the E3D wobbles around in the jigsaw. It's pretty snug left to right, but moves front to back.   I'm not even able to print now as the wobbling visibly moves the head around as it is trying to print.

I've tried a bit of kapton around the rings to make it a bit more snug, and it was, but is listening up again. Is there a solution to this?

Re: E3D with Lawsy Mk5 Jigsaw - Tilted

There is a solution to this but you need to secure it up enough to get a good print.

Re: E3D with Lawsy Mk5 Jigsaw - Tilted

Ugh.. I'll have to revert back to the original setup. Once the E3D is installed firmly I. The remodeled jigsaw, do they loosen up over time?

Re: E3D with Lawsy Mk5 Jigsaw - Tilted

They shouldn't unless you printed it with PLA.  The one I posted above has a bigger j- mount groove to better fit the E3d.  Just wrap any kind of tape you have around it to secure it for one print.  It just doesn't get that hot in that spot.

Re: E3D with Lawsy Mk5 Jigsaw - Tilted

Should it be printed with PLA as opposed to ABS?  I assumed ABS would be more resilient.

You want ABS
