Topic: Would Like to Understand 3D Printing Technology

Hello All,

I am Rajesh Kumar Adapa, Living in India.

From past few months I was hearing more about 3D Printing and based on that i have curiosity to learn about 3D Printing.
As per my Web Search i understand that 3D Printing can be used for Proto Type in NPI stage as well as it can be used for Production Low volume Parts.

Can anyone explain on what type of Production parts are best suitable for 3D Printing? What kind of material is best suitable for 3D Printing?

What are the parameters will give guidance to choose a Low volume component to change the manufacturing process from existing conventional method to 3D Printing Technology?

There is not really a "best material", but several different materials. The most popular being ABS, legos are made of this. some of the other materials are PLA, Nylon, and so on. Most of your questions are solved by a google search.

Similar to what Ggalisky said, there really is no "best" material. Every material has its own application, heat requirements (which may require upgrades or modifications), etc. I learned 80% of my printing knowledge just browsing this forum and asking questions. There is quite a bit of experience, intelligence, and people eager to help you with your questions. big_smile

3D printing is very slow, so if you want to use it for production it is better for small parts.  Just about any other form of manufacturing is better than 3D printing, except for things that are customized for buyers, and shapes that cannot molded.

Hello All,

Thank you very much for your comments. The reason for looking 3D printing for Production parts is to avoid Obsolescence issues with Low volume.

So could anyone explain, if we replace manufacturing method from conventional manufacturing to 3D printing for above materials, what kind of testing/validation required to use 3D printing parts?
