Topic: Bed taping
I've seen a lot of people who have what almost looks like blue painters tape on their heat bed to build on.. Is that some sort of special tape besides the kapton tape? Or is it actually painters tape?

It's painter's tape, but it's primarily for use when printing PLA. PLA doesn't require a heated bed, but it sticks to blue painter's tape like glue.
For printing with ABS, painter tape doesn't really work (at least not for me). You'll need a heated bed for that with either Kapton, or glass with hair spray, so some other means of keeping the plastic down.
To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
