Topic: Solidoodle fans

I do not know if this is 4 specific but I have already found two fan failures. One was on the extruder motor and one in the electronics box. Both became intermittent. I found the issue was were the wires go into the fan motor. I also found the fans are all bushing fans so I decided to replace them all because of a possible lot issue causing more connection failures and switch to ball bearing fans as a couple are already starting to get noisy. I did not request replacements from solidoodle because fans are cheap, I wanted the fast and I wanted better fans. If you want to test yours, just wiggle the wires at the fan base and see if the fan cuts out. Note I said wiggle not jerk. If it cuts out, I would replace it because a fan is cheaper than a motor and a fan. The fan sizes for all 40x40x10. The price difference between bushings and ball bearings are only about a dollar or so.

Yep, lots of folks have had to replace fans. A popular model seems to be the Noctua 40mm fans. They aren't cheap, but they are really really quiet and work very well.

Re: Solidoodle fans

I've had $2 Chinese-made fans that are better quality than the Soli models... Definitely worth exorcising them from your printer.

This is a crowd funding thing that I'm running: http://www.gofundme.com/bvi140 It's for pretty selfish reasons tongue
