How much for Solidoodle 2?

I have a number of tools yes. I've replaced the hot end and some basic repairs, but the forum only gives suggestions for printing parts to screw around the Z rod, but not to repair or replace it. Nor do I know if SD sells replacements for it anyway.

There is lots of information on the forums here about how to do a full z axis replacement, everything from replacing just the 5/16 threaded z-rod, to replacing the entire assembly. It's super straightforward with basic hand tools like Stevos758 said.  And can range anywhere from $10-$70 depending on if you simply want to replace, or upgrade to something better for the z rod.

As far as rod replacement. Find a local hardware store with a M5 or M3 threaded rod of your choice. Get one longer and cut it down to desired length. get two M5 or M3 nuts for the Slop Nut link above. You will also need some M3 hex bolts and nuts to hold the slop nut thingy on. Also get a flex coupler 3mm - 5mm or 3mm to 3mm depending on your rod choice.

Then sell the thing but don't buy another 3D printer.

It seems like your not cut out for this, not because of your skills but your defeatist attitude. All 3D printers are going to need some technical attention, so buying another brand will only make you burden on their community.
