I think I fixed it.
my spring tensioner on the extruder was either too tight or too loose. lol and I don't know which one.

It is hard to tell from your picture but I would bet your hot end is beginning to clog.

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL

How does it look when you extrude into the air?

fatter now.
it was thin before and squiggly but now its more solid.
but when it lays the first of a circle perimeter on a print its really skinny still.

but then once it keeps flowing its fine.

very odd.

How do you think I ended up being such a big fan of the E3D?  I went through that process once and a couple of weeks later it clogged again.  Go to Filastruder.com and never look back.  The E3D isn't just plug and play though.
You will need to flash the firmware which I can help with If I know what board you have.
You also will need an MK-5 if you don't already have one you can order them from filastruder also.

I have mk5,
how tight should that sucker be?

do I want an ED3 with Bowden feed or direct?
I have no idea what either mean lol.
I kinda get the direct feed, but what is Bowden?

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

Bowden is when your extruder stepper motor is mounted remote... not on the printhead... like the rostock delta and similar printers use.

13

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

so for my solidoodle 3 I would want to use the direct feed?

14

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

get the direct drive E3D.
Lawsy's Mk5 works fine on it http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:111213.
You could also use http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:178102 which seems to produce less 'spin' on the extruder.
I also like http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:271506 if you are thinking about adding a fan.

Make sure you get the right software instructions though.  It took me longer to upload the firmware for the printrboard than it did to install the hot end.

+1 to what Michael said I stepped away for a bit.
You want the direct and make sure you get the one for 1.75.  You may also consider ordering up an extra nozzle or two.  Maybe even a .6 for fun.  They are cheap and if you should ever get a clog just unscrew and replace.  Then you can clean the old one while you still print.

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

thankyou so much this is such a great help.
just goes to show how much I don't know about my 3D printer. lol
and I thought I was some sort of advisor at school on this stuff. hahah.

what are your guys thoughts on the bulldog?

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

Are you talking about the Bulldog XL or the lite?
I run the XL and really like it.  However, it comes at a price.  It is heavier so I have noticed that I have had to reduce my speeds from ridiculously fast to still pretty damn fast.  The upside is because it is geared, moire is totally eliminated.  It never strips the filament which is really nice.  It also is a great excuse to upgrade to linear bearings and spend even more money smile

is there a printed mount that someone came up with for the Bulldog XL? or do you just strap it on and go?

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

Actually there are mounts that some guy buy the user name of wardjr designed just for the Bulldog.
For the stock carriage http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:242137
And for linear bearings use http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:242746
Hope that helps.

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

man linear bearings really need to be worked in don't they. lol
I guess I could have gotten the non china made ones and went with the 17$ a piece ones from McMaster car?

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

so I installed the carriage upgrade that lawsy posted up
why is it homing x axis to the left now and not the right?
and even if I had the switch on the left, it wouldn't hit it. I know for sure when I have the x axis go all the way to the right it doesn't come close to hitting the micro switch.

Re: why is my doodle doing this? video inside

You have the bearing holders reversed.  The free part of the belt should pass toward the rear and the mounted ends of the belt towards the front.
