Topic: skienforge out of memory error

I just got my solidoodle and have been printing out small objects fine. But I just tryed to convert the gear lamp form thingverse into gcode using skienforge and i keep getting an out of memory error. This error keeps coming up when i try to convert bigger stl files into gcode. If anyone could help that would be great. PLEASE

Re: skienforge out of memory error

upload it cloud.netfabb.com anx try to run the repair through.  Sometimes that helps and it's free!

Re: skienforge out of memory error

STls seem to come back from netfabb with smaller file sizes.  I don't think they are being decimated, but it seems like they are more efficient somehow.

Re: skienforge out of memory error

What was the file size of the STL, just out of curiousity?

Re: skienforge out of memory error

Python is limited to ~2GB of memory on 32-bit installs. You need to use 64-bit. Macs are 64-bit by default.

Or slic3r, like you discovered.

Re: skienforge out of memory error

the stl was 740kb

Do you have a couple of example stls, before and after?

I can put them into max, compare polygon counts, edges, mesh structure etc. Take some screenshots, might give us an idea of what it does.

It's free, upload something to http://cloud.netfabb.com and it will "clean" it up.  I'd be interested in your results.

I don't really have any 3d models with issues, as I clean them by hand using STL Check within 3DS Max.  I put my piston through, and didn't really come out the other side any different. A couple of new edge lines cut in, but that's about it.

I guess I could grab one of our "broken" game assets and give it a go, will try that later.
